Good news 2025
American Thinker ^ | Ben Voth

Posted on 12/29/2025 2:36:24 PM PST by lonestar67

Every year, New York Times journalist Nicholas Kristof ends the year providing a useful and compelling summary of good news from the past year to counteract the general journalistic theme of bad news dominating the headlines. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Kristof refused to offer that annual summary this year. His reactionary political ethic regarding the President of the United States prevented this work. In his own words: "I’ve done these “best year ever” columns annually, irritating Eeyores. But now I just can’t. The year 2025 was a setback for humanity -- and unfortunately, the United States is a reason for the retreat.” Here is the work Kristof is unwilling to do regarding the good news of 2025.

I am constantly amazed that educated, thinking, rational people can be so diametrically opposed to one another in their viewpoints on current events. To me, this has been one of the best years I have ever lived through. We are finally setting straight and reversing most of the egregious cultural trends, and the political and economic poisoning that we have endured over the previous several years.

I suppose though if you're all in for DEI wokeness, LGBTQ rights, open borders, socialism and large wasteful government spending and deficits to the end of time, drugs and crime let loose across the nation, then you're probably depressed and suffering TDS.

The nyt “writer” is quite immature...and unprofessional.

Here’s a hint for the obviously mentally ill “writer”.

TDS can be successfully treated but that involves jumping off of a high skyscraper.

Gas prices are down compared to how they shot up and stayed higher during Biden.

Less illegals in the country, keeps going down every day.

Planned Parenthood isn’t doing as well as before.

We have a president that doesn’t use libtard politispeak.

Socialists really don’t like it when you roll back their socialist “progress.”

You seem confused when trying to describe Kristhof or any NYT staffer as : “…educated, thinking, rational people…”. Please state your evidence for this characterization.

Sorry, I slipped up - forgot to add “allegedly” educated, thinking, rational people. The evidence is lacking though.

You describe what I feel about my own mum. Her entire political philosophy is from feelz and daytime talk shows. My father RIP was no better but at least worked every day of his life to raise the family comfortably but a total liberal lunatic. She voted for every tax and fee but complained her taxes were unfair. She lives in a nice little neighborhood where Biden dumped off thousands of illegals in a sanctuary city /state and complains crime is high. She supported giving every illegal free health care and housing but complains she can’t get to the doctor’s office or why her rent is so high. She has watched the entire state (Oregon) descend in to a drug infested s hole but still blames republicans for not spending enough money. But when it is her turn to pay.... “Republicans refuse to pay their fair share.”

It is getting tough to visit her now. But as her memory fades it is getting easier, as cruel as that sounds. I showed her how to play her favorite tunes and shows on the new cell phone vs her usual consumption of The View and MSNBC.

God bless me the strength to abide your commandment “honor thy mother and father.... “ It’s a tough one sometimes.
