A joint venture between two industry giants will lead to the launch of a flagship EV, and it’ll take an unexpected title when it does come to market.
The Afeela 1 is going on sale in California next year as the first model from Sony Honda Mobility, a partnership between the tech and car giants, with a vision to take on the upper end of the EV market.
While some cars already offer onboard gaming via their touchscreens – or even have rear screens you can plug devices into – the Afeela 1 will be the first car to feature PS Remote Play in its in-car entertainment system, allowing the remote streaming of PlayStation games.
Already available on a host of other devices including the PlayStation Portal Remote Player, the introduction of PS Remote Play unlocks almost every PS4 and PS5 game to be played in the Afeela 1.
That includes Gran Turismo 7, which last year added the upcoming EV to its list of available cars – allowing players to drive the car virtually while sitting in it.
PS Remote Play will be able to be used rear seat occupants in the Afeela 1 Signature, which gets two 12.9-inch screens behind the front seats.
Despite being launched by a Japanese company, the Afeela 1 is first going on sale in California in 2026 before heading to Japan.
It’s powered by a dual-motor electric powertrain, producing 360kW from a 91kWh lithium-ion battery. Prices will start from $102,900 for the Signature, which is almost $8,000 more than a Tesla Model S Plaid, though the more affordable Origin will debut later.

People can sleep, play video games in the car, or do anything while the car is autonomously driving because it is Level 3. You could drive the freeway and not be driving as the AI is doing the driving for you in the car.
“Afeela”?!?
Driving the car themselves while not touching the steering wheel, brakes, gas pedal etc, with their PlayStation controller, likely via bluetooth.
Picture's worth a thousand words but I only need one. Stupid. Ok maybe two, stupid and dangerous.
I thought drive by wire was bad enough, where the brake pedal has no push rod to the master cylinder, the gas pedal has no cable to the throttle body and the steering wheel isn't attached to a steering column going to the steering box/rack and pinion and it's all sensors and servos. Now it's drive by bluetooth operating the servos.
BS.
I can’t wait to take my girl to the drive-in in one.
Afeela crash is imminent!
Deploy all air bags NOW!!
Alexa, Dial 911...
Bad for brain development.
We will become like the episode with Spock’s brain.
Using gaming controllers on a real vehicle worked out real well for the Titan deep water submersible . . .
The automobile is on its way to becoming just another gadget where you don’t control it, it controls you. It’s a tool of the government and industry too, for it is destined to rule and regulate you. It may be vile and pernicious but you can’t look away. It makes you think it’s delicious with the stuff that they say. You will obey them as they lead you and eat the garbage that they feed you. Don’t go for help, no one will heed you. Your minds are totally controlled and you’ll be stuffed into their mold and you will do as you are told until the rights to you are sold. That’s right, folks...Don’t touch that dial.
Those are for people sitting in the back seats from what I can tell by looking at other articles.
7. Pollution. EVs will be the next Super Fund environmental cleanup that will dwarf the original Super Fund cleanups.
