CROSSLAKE, Minn. (KTTC) – In a letter penned by the mayor of Crosslake, and signed by 97 other mayors across the state of Minnesota, top city officials expressed their “deep concern and growing frustration” with the direction the state is heading in.
Crosslake Mayor Jackson Purfeerst claimed that fraud, unchecked spending, and inconsistent fiscal management at the state level is making it more difficult for cities and towns to plan responsibly and continue offering core services to local taxpayers.
“Minnesotans watched an historic $18 billion in surplus disappear in a single biennium, only to now face an updated projected $2.9 billion−$3 billion deficit in the 2028-29 biennium," Mayor Purfeerst said, “As mayors, we see firsthand how these decisions ripple outward.”
The letter cited a recent report from the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce that “shows our state slipping in national economic rankings.” The following ranks were listed:
33rd in GDP growth 39th in job growth 40th in labor force growth 33rd in per-capita income growth 46th in median household income growth 44th in tech job growth 44th in overall tax competitiveness
The letter also cites reports from KSTP suggesting rising property tax levy pressures.
“As mayors, we are committed to responsible budgeting, fiscal restraint, and delivering high-quality local services,” Mayor Purfeerst said, “Yet there is a growing disconnect between state-level fiscal decisions and the strain they place on the cities we lead.”
98 mayors have signed the letter addressed to Minnesota state representatives, senators, and Governor Walz.
Among the 98 signatures include five mayors from the Southeast Minnesota region:
Jimmie-John King - Stewartville Robert J. Schell DVM - Altura Andrew J. Leisen - Rose Creek Jeffery E. McCool - West Concord Paul Kreidermacher - Rollingstone

Hello Alex, Merry Christmas.
Years ago I had to suffer through a DEI session at work.
It was absolute torture.
A small stuffy conference room with about tow dozen people and a black woman droning on and on about how “We’re all equal and diversity is our strength!’’
After about two hours of this tediousness I asked this woman “If we’re all equal how is diversity our strength?’’
I never got an answer to that question from this woman.
The statement seems to be a contradiction in terms.
‘’two’’ not ‘’tow’’.
“Years ago I had to suffer through a DEI session at work.”
You know who is suffering most under Trump? These scumbag DEI fraud meisters who led the DEI indoctrination sessions. Like the one you were forced to attend at your business. Most are out of work these days.
These fraudsters were the business model for the BLM rip-off artists. Their enablers, Tim Walz level retarded (as Trump effectively called him), white liberals-Democrats.
Yup.
Tim Walz. A real life “Elmer Fudd’’.
So Tampex Tom will be impeached?
Deport the entirety of the Somalian grifters. Send them back to Mogadishu.
Yiou scored big on that one.
Good job.
Humble thanks. I nearly lost my job.
Merry Christmas.
Strongly worded letters, the way of modern politicians.
I nearly lost my job.>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The wages of Liberty accost us all.
I hope your employer understands their mistake.
Political ideology like that is a mark of fascism, or at the very least totalitarian existence.
Would that your ignorant detractors would have read “Animal Farm”
What you did was heroic , and now many of your colleagues have benefited from your conduct.
Merry Christmas.....chose Liberty EVERY TIME!
Minnesota mayors, nearly 100 who wrote to the Governor, are deeply concerned about the state’s fiscal policies, a rapidly shrinking budget surplus, and projected deficits, feeling state spending impacts local cities and taxpayers negatively, with issues also including massive state program fraud and increasing ICE operations causing unease. Specific concerns involve property taxes, housing affordability, and managing state funds effectively.
Key Concerns Highlighted by Minnesota Mayors (Late 2025):
Fiscal Mismanagement: A letter from 98 mayors cited frustration with how state tax dollars are spent, noting the disappearance of a large surplus and looming budget deficits for 2028-29.
State Fraud: Investigations into widespread fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs, potentially costing millions, is a major issue, drawing federal attention and impacting trust in state governance.
Impact on Cities: Mayors feel these state fiscal issues directly harm their residents and city budgets, potentially leading to higher property taxes.
Immigration Enforcement: Growing ICE operations in Minnesota have raised concerns among mayors and faith leaders, particularly regarding community trust and holiday season impacts.
Housing & Homelessness: While some progress was noted (like decreased homelessness), housing policy, zoning, and affordability remain key topics for mayors like Minneapolis’s Jacob Frey.
These concerns reflect a broad push from local leadership to influence state spending priorities and address critical community needs, even uniting mayors from across the state who rarely act in unison.
Right? Why didn’t the mayors demand Putz resign? He incompetently squandered billions of dollars. He deserves to be humiliated, disgraced and jailed. That’s a strongly worded letter.
Where were they when it mattered? Is this CYA?
Less talk and begin the arrests and prosecutions. Getting sick and tired out here
