US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said the US "needs" Greenland for security reasons and has refused to rule out using force to secure it.
Denmark summoned the United States ambassador on Monday (Dec 22) after US President Donald Trump appointed a special envoy to Greenland who immediately vowed to make the Danish autonomous territory "a part of the US".
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has repeatedly said the US "needs" the resource-rich Arctic island for security reasons and has refused to rule out using force to secure it. On Sunday, Trump appointed Louisiana governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said on Monday he was "deeply angered" by the move and warned Washington to respect Denmark's sovereignty.

Trump’s got them acting like democrats. What else is there to know?
They have every reason not to Trust the USA.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Iceworm
Project Iceworm was a top secret United States Army program of the Cold War, which aimed to build a network of mobile nuclear missile launch sites under the Greenland ice sheet. The goal was to install a vast network of nuclear missile launch sites that could survive a first strike. This was according to the Danish Institute for International Studies which obtained declassified documents in 1996.[1][2] The missiles, which could strike targets within the Soviet Union, were never fielded and necessary consent from the Danish Government to do so was never obtained.
Well, we seem to be at war with everybody else. Might as well throw Denmark on the pile.
The US isn’t going to go to war with Denmark over Greenland.
We’ll just bribe the Greenlanders to demand independence, then establish some sort of commonwealth agreement. Like we did for Northern Marianas, and may well do for Alberta, and maybe Saskatchewan.
Tit for tat!

Any reasonable person would certainly know this, certainly one who writes books about himself and his self-proclaimed powers of negotiation. Trump is engaged in an inexplicable anomaly. On the one hand, Trump has clearly accommodated in word and deed Russia's invasion of Ukraine, even falsely alleging that President Zelensky started that war. On the other hand, he tells the world that he needs Greenland to defend against Russia.
As you point out, Trump could easily have negotiated an accommodation at reasonable cost. But, he chose instead a calculated course of abuse and humiliation of Denmark that could only result in the acrimony we read about here. This comes at the same time that he and Vice President Vance journeyed to Europe to deliver a pair of speeches deliberately insulting these people, even as he alienated Canada, a NATO member, with ungracious and threatening remarks about acquiring Canada as a 51st state.
There is no attempt to reasonably conciliate with Europe, rather the Trump administration is deliberately engaging in a series of provocations calculated to alienate Europe, to bust up NATO, and, no doubt, the European Union.
This blustering and unprovoked abuse of Denmark, our NATO allies, and larger Europe has little to do with the facts on the ground in Greenland, rather much to do with a larger, darker agenda.
Denmark has done nothing for the native population, nothing for the entire island. A U.S. takeover would benefit the U.S., Greenland and it’s native population, and could be quite profitable for Denmark also. We cannot allow Russia or China to get their hands on it.
denmark would if they haven’t already given in to the Chinese
European leaders are mostly a bunch of slimy leftists, so I wouldn’t doubt they’re making deals with the chinks.
The NWO Danes are not pleased.
Who cares?
Europe is ;ost, they still buy Russian oil. Idiots.
We are taking over the NOrth Atlantic.
For just cause.
Greenland should inideed become a US protectorate. The Danes cannot do it against Russia.
So much winning.
Move it on over...Move over little dog ‘cause the big dog’s movin’ in.
Is it possible that some of this is posturing to get European countries to actually foot some of the bill for their own self defense? Over the last 70 years they’ve funded cradle to grave socialism while neglecting their own military spending while the US taxpayer picks up the tab. Well, we’re out of money.

Like Canada...we will make deals...but will not "Own" either.
Merry Christmas,
In my opinion, based on living in, 4 years, and traveling a good portion of Europe as well as North Africa, distancing ourselves from Europe is not a bad thing. It is necessary for our survival.
I was in Paris on 9-11 and saw muslims celebrating in the streets. This past April I flew into Amsterdam and took a lovely river cruise through Holland and Belgium to enjoy peak flower season. The numbers of muslims now living in the EU is alarming. And the demographics trend ensures the elimination of native culture.
At one point our boat tied off to the side of a canal to wait our turn at a lock. I looked out my stateroom window and every woman was dressed in a hijab, walking behind her husband and pushing a stroller with a handful of kids behind her. Every storefront name was written in arabic. There were no white people to be seen.
Trying to conciliate with Europe, staying in NATO and obligating us to defend it, while the muslim call to prayer sounds out in American cities is foolish. Rather we should learn from Europes mistakes and defend our own country from invasion and cultural suicide.
Denmark is small and even minor member of NATO and barely a speedbump if the Russians get serious. They have almost completely ignored Greenland since the Vikings landed there, treating the residents like a combination wildlife park and petting zoo.
It's now the 21st Century and Russia and China and maybe Iran are long-range ballistic threats and China and Russia are nosing around Greenland themselves for their use. The Arctic is a serious theater of operations and we make a strategic mistake in ignoring it.
While it may offend your sensibilities, Trump is right: Greenland is strategic territory and its residents deserve protection and support under our Constitution (crap, we can even offer that support to Denmark if they decide to move away from the globalist nonsense).
European and American elites are both dug in opposing Trump on everything, and would gladly let the Chinese Navy set up a base on Greenland just to oppose Trump.
Congratulations.
Four and a half paragraphs and you managed to get a CIA, NATO, EU, NWO, China talking point into each one.
Bravo.
Trump could have had strategic Greenland and with a smile but instead he chose to pointlessly (or rather, quite pointedly) offend Denmark, an ally. Now he has neither Greenland, an ally, nor a smile.
You accuse me of TDS when a review of my posts will show strong support for Trump on most issues, especially including his efforts to save the nation from economic destruction.
I accuse you of Trump Adulation Syndrome to the degree that you have abandoned any reasoned analysis of the situation for blind support of Donald. Here, for example, you would explicitly commit the United States to the defense of Greenland and to Denmark, when Trump himself has said that that support of NATO could not be counted on. According to the bizarre treatment we have meted out to NATO, Maga doctrine says protecting Denmark, or any of the other NATO ally for that matter, is "globalist nonsense." Principled consistency apparently does not trouble you, only what Donald said last.
