Vivek Ramaswamy dismissed the idea of “Heritage Americans” as illegitimate during remarks at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday, directly challenging a narrative he says is gaining traction among some segments of the “online right.”
“There’s a different vision of American identity that’s emergent in certain corridors of the online right,” Ramaswamy said during his speech on Day 2 of the conservative youth conference. “And it says that your identity as an American is based on your lineage. That how long you have been in the country, your lineage and your genetics tied to the blood and soil of the country, determines how American you are.”
He described the “Heritage American” concept as the belief that the most authentic Americans are those descended from families present during or before the Revolutionary era. While acknowledging that the idea is gaining popularity, he dismissed it as “about as loony as anything the woke left has actually put up,” adding that “there is no American who is more American than somebody else.”
Ramaswamy framed his view of national identity in absolute terms. “It’s not like the left. They believe in this nonbinary stuff. There’s no nonbinary American. It is binary. Either you’re an American or you’re not.”

Well, Mr. Vince Ramsey is entitled to his opinion.
That single statement ensures he’ll never be elected to anything, anywhere.
Hopefully they find someone to replace him since I don’t think he’s going to win
He’s right. Under the Constitution, an American is an American. There is only one singular distinction that the holders of the offices of the President and Vice-President must have been born an American citizen. It draws no other distinction between an American whose ancestor came on the Mayflower, and one who swore the oath this morning.
I really fk'n hate this dude. I know he was born in Ohio but can we deport him anyways, on principle?
And you as Russian pos are neither.
👍
The Constitution isn't a suicide pact.
He is an idiot on many things.
about as loony as anything the woke left has actually put up,” adding that “there is no American who is more American than somebody else.”
Thats pretty much true.
My people legally immigrated in the early 1900’s. I am as American as any Mayflower passenger.
My rule is that if they say they are African-American, they are African. If they say they are Irish-American they are Irish. If they say they are Mexican-American, then they are Mexican and so on. I am an American with Irish ancestry, but I am American-American with no tribal distinction.
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.” ― Theodore Roosevelt
Either you’re an American or you’re not.”

Exactly right. And anyone who is here illegally is obviously not an American and should be deported immediately if not sooner!
60 years ago it didn’t matter so much if your ancestors fought at Yorktown or Gettysburg. If your father fought at Normandy or Iwo Jima or your parents contributed to victory in some other way, you were a “heritage American” and proud of it.
Today, the country’s kind of ashamed of its past and so many people are dismissing or belittling or attacking the American heritage, that “heritage Americans” has become a thing. Telling people that you literally want to replace them — as our government and some individuals in visible and vocal minorities have — isn’t the way to win them over.
I’ve met immigrants, even first generation, who better embodied the American spirit than many “heritage Americans”. Having George Washington himself (if he had fathered children) in your family tree does nothing to make you a great American. One of the problems we have is that people are no longer expected to embrace our founding values. Many modern immigrants try to impose their own culture and beliefs on America, rather than assimilate. Even more so among “refugees” and those who arrive illegally.
