WARSAW, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Polish security services have detained a 19-year-old student suspected of seeking to establish contacts with Islamic State and charged with preparing an attack at a Christmas market that could have caused mass casualties, authorities said on Tuesday.
Mateusz W., a student at the Catholic University of Lublin, wanted to commit an attack using explosives and planned to join a terrorist organization, said Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesperson for Poland's special services.
"The man was very fascinated by Islam, sought to establish contacts with the Islamic State, and was preparing an attack in Poland, in one of the cities during a Christmas market," Dobrzynski said during a press conference. He declined to say in which city the attack was to be carried out so as "not to cause panic." He added that the man was detained in late November in his apartment in Lublin, eastern Poland, and Internal Security Agency officers seized data carriers and items related to Islam.
The prosecutor's office charged Mateusz W. with "undertaking preparatory actions to carry out a terrorist attack that could have resulted in the death or serious injury of many people." The court ordered him detained for three months.

I blame much of this on that garbage piece of trash George W. Bush. He could have strangled radical Islam after 9/11. Just as FDR strangled fascism in WW2.
Instead Bush told the entire world that “Islam is peace.”

Enact that it is a terrorist organization. NOT A RELIGION. No tax benefits, no public ceremonies allowed, no meetings allowed, even 'mostly peaceful' ones.
Kick ANY miscreants out to a Moose Limb Country of their choice. One way. Coach. Give them a per diem for a week or so.
As long as we keep deluding ourselves, these animals will perceive it correctly as weakness. And things will continually worsen.

The fascination with Islam. I can understand. Women are ‘protected’ with burkas. That plus they’re less likely to fool around or go militant because of it.

Why is it if someone is fascinated by Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism or Hinduism, they buy a book or start attending houses of worship and learning more about how to serve God in that faith. But this kid was “fascinated by Islam,” and immediately looked for ways to kill non-Muslims.

The core texts of the belief dictate the “attractiveness” of the belief, along with the actions and inspiration of followers.
There may also be the aspect that Iz looks “manly” in some ways - aggressive etc. and can be attractive to weak people (weak because the aggression is directed against the weak, the Iz warriors run scared when they come across someone who stands up to them)
