President Trump referred to the late actor and director Rob Reiner as having “TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME” in a social-media post Monday less than a day after authorities said the Democratic activist and donor and his wife were found dead in their Los Angeles home.
Trump said Reiner, a critic of the president, was “tortured and struggling” and attributed the death “to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.”
“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump’s post prompted criticism from Democrats and some Republicans. The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump’s response drew pushback from some Truth Social users, who, in replies to the president’s post, called it heartless and urged him to take it down. Some Republicans also criticized Trump over the post.
Erick Erickson, a conservative radio host, wrote on X, “This is the sort of stuff that exhausts people who like the man.” Jenna Ellis, a lawyer who advised Trump during his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, wrote on X that it was “NOT the appropriate response” and “a horrible example from Trump.”
“This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.), who has broken with Trump in recent months, wrote on social media.
“Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse” about a man who died, Rep. Thomas Massie (R., Ky.), who faces a Trump-backed primary challenge next year, said in a social-media post.

Would not have mattered what he said, they hated him before and would still hate him after. He probably should have let someone else write what needed to be said, if anything was really necessary, and posted that.

I voted for a President, not a Pope - but there are some minimum levels of decency I do expect from a POTUS. This did not clear that bar.

I couldn’t care less. He’s still my President.
He praised Reiner’s work and mentioned that his liberal postings drove him other people crazy sometimes, which is absolutely true.

What Trump said is basically true, despite how insensitive it may sound. What Democrats said about Charlie Kirk, however, was basically untrue. That he was a racist, a homophobe, etc. Democrats are still killing Charlie Kirk with their lies even after he is dead. It’s the same thing they do to all believers in Christ if they can.
Were it the other way around, would Mr. Reiner have had nothing but nice things to say about the President?

I agree. Trump is an awesome president.

But remember this is a guy who has said awful things about Trump for more than 10 years. It was obviously personal between these two.
