Trump admin to hire 1,000 specialists for ‘Tech Force’ to build AI, finance projects

The Trump administration on Monday unveiled a new initiative dubbed the “U.S. Tech Force,” comprising about 1,000 engineers and other specialists who will work on artificial intelligence infrastructure and other technology projects throughout the federal government.

Participants will commit to a two-year employment program working with teams that report directly to agency leaders in “collaboration with leading technology companies,” according to an official government website.

Those “private sector partners” include Amazon Web Services , Apple , Google Public Sector, Dell Technologies , Microsoft , Nvidia , OpenAI, Oracle , Palantir , Salesforce and numerous others, the website says.

The Tech Force shows the Trump administration increasing its focus on developing America’s AI infrastructure as it competes with China for dominance in the rapidly growing industry.

The initiative was announced four days after President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at establishing a national AI policy framework — a priority for industry leaders who opposed states crafting their own regulations.

Once Tech Force members complete their two terms, they can seek full-time jobs with those companies, who have committed to consider the programs’ alumni for employment. The private partners can also nominate their employees to do stints of government service.

I’d like more AI focused on things like voting irregularities and finding money fraud.

All of this is beyond the limits of powers granted by the Constitution.

I agree, no good can come from this. It's more control over citizens and possible denial of rights. Also, a chosen few can curtail positive achievements done by outside companies, because "they" say what can be done.

I was wondering about the constitutionality until I reread the operative sentence. This is hiring for a program that will build AI functionality in government, much as previous programs have worked on word processing, then office automation, then databases. The two-year duration suggests an effort to avoid permanent hires. These people will work with agency heads with the objective of ensuring that we are not ripped off (or maybe mitigate ripoffs) by contractors/vendors. All of this is in furtherance of agancy mission. So, if an agency’s mission is constitutional there is no breach.

I would apply, but I did not see how the internet would be misused and commercialized, but I have no doubts about how the Govt will use AI

This is called taxpayer funded training for future government contractors who will use AI in totally unforeseeable ways. I predict it will not be for the cause of liberty and limited government.

Trump needs some better advisors on the role of government.

If we don’t do it, the Chinese will.

“..All of this is beyond the limits of powers granted by the Constitution....”

Yep..fully agree.
However, so was Obama, the EPA, Civil Rights, Gun Control, and a whole big host of other bleeding-heart, feel-good, feral federal BS that seems to never end.

For our own good, of course.

And the next democrat administration will be regulating how long we brush our teeth because smart toothbrushes will be connected.

Hope they put in rules that mandate that if AI is used against US citizens, it deletes it’s code, and powers down. Hate to see what the next auto-pen will do with this.

If we don’t do it, the Chinese will.

Maybe backpedal from that, or add more context! The CCP Chinese are doing some really nasty bad evil things. So did Hitler. Need more context!

Anyway, latest news is SpaceX is testing Space AI data centers. They already have tested this in some satellites in space. SpaceX is planning on launching thousands of Space AI data centers. They have the means, and China does not. US Space Force will work with SpaceX to make use of this. Why space? They will have 24 hour access to free solar energy, 30 percent stronger than on Earth, and have radiators on their dark side to dissipate heat in near absolute zero. Far cheaper than Earth based data centers. The USA will continue to be far ahead of China in AI research.
