WASHINGTON — Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy threatened Friday to yank $73 million in federal highway funding meant for New York after an audit found more than half of the Empire State’s commercial trucking licenses were issued to foreign-born drivers in the US illegally.
“What New York does is if an applicant comes in and they have a work authorization — for 30 days, 60 days, one year — New York automatically issues them an eight-year commercial driver’s license,” Duffy said during a press conference at DOT headquarters in DC Friday. “That’s contrary to the law.”
“But we also found that New York many times won’t even verify whether they have a work authorization, they have a visa, or they’re in the country legally,” he added.
“So they’re just giving eight-year commercial driver’s licenses to people who are coming through their DMV and sending them out on American roadways — and again they’re endangering the lives of American families.”
Duffy issued the warning after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reviewed all non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) issued by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles and found a 53% failure rate of its roughly 32,000 CDLs.
The transportation secretary is giving Hochul and her officials 30 days to revoke all the illegal CDLs, pause any new licenses or learner’s permits from being issued and conduct their own comprehensive audit — or have their federal funding pulled.

Threatens? Just do it.
New York turns over the entire records of every illegal driver - names, dates, addresses, photos, sponsor companies, etc., or the Feds impound any commercial vehicle registered in the State of New York that gets caught driving on a roadway of any other state. The parked garbage trucks alone will have New York jammed in its own garbage in 24 hours.
It's a protection measure, and would fall under the Feds. It would be no different than stopping a vehicle with a Russian registration from driving across a state line.
That would get Hochul the Fool's attention.
Less threatening, more doing.
Getting a CDL is, in Pennsylvania, NOT an easy process:
Here’s a clear overview of how long it typically takes to get a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Pennsylvania — including the real-world timeframes to complete the required steps:
🧑🎓 1. Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)
Before you can test for your CDL, federal rules require you to complete Entry-Level Driver Training from an authorized provider if you’re getting your first Class A or B CDL (or certain endorsements). The length of this training varies by program, but most full-time courses take about 4–8 weeks, and some can be as short as 4–6 weeks depending on scheduling and your availability.
📝 2. Learner’s Permit (CLP) & Waiting Period
Once you pass the written knowledge tests, you’ll get a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). Pennsylvania law requires you to hold the CLP for at least 15 days before you can take the CDL skills test.
🚛 3. Skills Test (Driving Exam)
After the 15-day waiting period, you can schedule and take the CDL skills test (pre-trip inspection, basic control, and road test). You must pass this to get your full CDL. The scheduling date depends on test availability and your readiness.
📅 Typical Total Time
From start to finish (training + permit + skills test):
• Fastest possible: ~6 weeks (if training, permit processing, and testing go smoothly and you go full-time)
• Typical range: 8–10 weeks for most people combining training and required waiting/testing time.
• Longer cases: Up to 12–16 weeks if you attend part-time training, have exam delays, retake tests, or wait for available test slots.
What is the NY process for English speaking folks?
I believe Biden and crew will be remembered as the most corrupt and inept President and staff in the history of the US.
This is a bold statement, especially since equally leftist, woke, corrupt California backed down. He’d better be able to prove it or get out of town , if not the country.
NYS DMV spokesperson Walter McClure responded in a statement: “Secretary Duffy is lying about New York State once again in a desperate attempt to distract from the failing, chaotic administration he represents.”
“Here is the truth: Commercial Drivers Licenses are regulated by the Federal Government, and New York State DMV has, and will continue to, comply with federal rules. Every CDL we issue is subject to verification of an applicant’s lawful status through federally-issued documents reviewed in accordance with federal regulations. This is just another stunt from Secretary Duffy, and it does nothing to keep our roads safer. We will review USDOT’s letter and respond accordingly.”
Yep, just another “threat” without any real consequences.
DO IT!!!!!!!!!!
Think of how many citizens had to settle for lower pay as a trucker, were crowded out of training and a job, or were injured or killed in an accident just so the Democrats could get more voters.
And the horse$hit we had to go thru for compliance with Real ID requirements!!! And this........???
Fair enough. But when Hochul doesn't do it, pull the funding.
VDO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
But they won’t. Nothing will happen, oh things may appear to change for a while but as soon as the dust clears, BAM it’ll all just happen again. This is getting ridiculous. The Trump admin started fast but is losing steam in its uphill battle to make meaningful change.
New York government won’t even verify whether truck drivers have a work authorization, whether they have a visa, or they’re in the country legally.
They just give eight-year valid commercial driver’s licenses to people who are coming through the NY DMV and callously send them out on American roadways — to criminally endanger the lives of American families.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reviewed all non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) issued by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles and found a 53% failure rate of its roughly 32,000 CDLs.

Probably the same or similar on paper. Shapiro probably waves the process for illegals just as Hochel does.
These people ignore threats. Easy to see why.🙄 I am tired of Americans always getting screwed over for illegals and foreigners.
You can talk tough. You can carry a big stick.
But you have to use the stick.
