President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he has granted a full pardon to Tina Peters, the former Mesa County clerk whose case has become a rallying point for election-integrity activists across the country. Trump has previously described Peters as a "political prisoner" on several occasions.

If I’m not mistaken, she’s in jail over state charges not Federal Charges, which means the pardon from Trump has no effect on her jail status.

That’s what I thought too. Perhaps acting not as POTUS, but as CIC is used to a pardon effective for state charges

This is what Trump is trying to do, I have no idea if he has that type of power.

May this pardon be “upheld” should the pardon be contested.

From the article:

In a nine-page letter dated Dec. 7, attorney Peter Ticktin urged the president to grant Peters a pardon and argued that presidential clemency power extends to state convictions.

Ticktin acknowledged that “the question of whether a president can pardon for state offenses has never been raised in any court,” but said he believed the U.S. Supreme Court should ultimately decide the issue.

shrugs. i think it may be dawning on Trump that when the other side is ignoring all the rules, and the referees are looking the other way or outright rigging the game, it’s time to do the same to them. it’s been obvious for a number of years now that we are no longer a Republic under the Law derived from the Constitution, at least to me. imho, it’s stupid to obey the rules while the other team is completely ignoring them.

I think a few of the biggest things we can do to fight the other side is, redraw the maps wherever possible to gain more seats in the house and win the 2026 midterms, if the Democrats take the House, it will be insane, immediately Trump will get impeached again.

Then we need to win the fight over the census, only count US citizens, this will swing quite a few seats to red states, for example at least 2 and perhaps up to 4 seats in Florida would get added and they can all be Republican seats.

Then keep pushing wherever possible to clean up the voting systems.

In the last 3 years of the Trump Administration, we need to put into overdrive the efforts to deport as many people as possible.

It’s not going to be perfect, but doing the few things I have listed will go a long way to reversing the mess we are in.

In his Truth Social statement about her pardon, he’s trying to shame the state of Colorado for allowing violent criminals out on the street to murder and maim more people, while forcing a woman whose only crime was questioning the results of an election, to rot in prison.

Peters took another employee’s access badge that provided secure, unescorted access to restricted areas, never told that employee she had done that and then lied about it.

n.b. - she was not convicted on those charges. But she has a documented history of using false / other identities.

With that said, the 9 year prison sentence was harsh and uncalled for.

Alexander Muse had a long X post a month ago, proposing that President Trump do exactly this and explaining the legal argument that the President’s pardon power extends to state legal matters when there’s a national interest.

Trump’s main problem is the feckless and corrupt GOPe wing of the uniparty, that includes the state GOPs. so far, he’s again failed miserably at getting control of corrupt members of his ‘own’ party. the levers he can use to control the state and local GOPs are money, and the MAGA grass roots.

all the things you have mentioned require getting control of the GOP. imho, the only political option he has would be to make a complete overhaul, top to bottom, of the GOP in all the blue and purple states, where it’s warranted. states like CA, VA, NJ, NM, and AK for instance. he ought to fire all GOP officers/chairs in those states, appoint his own state party chairs (maybe use Turning Point USA for instance), and find grass roots volunteers to take over and rewrite the party rules to favor MAGA volunteers. all the old GOP power structure has to go. forget about party rules. just do it. if he did that, the red state GOPs and their reps and senators might fall in line out of fear, he would do that to them. if that happens the national GOPe will fall into line, too. that’s what Reagan was able to do.

Right now, that’s a legal opinion, from what I’ve read there is no precedence for a POTUS pardoning someone on State Charges...

What you say is true, I’m not hopeful of any of it happening, the strategy is simple and means doing what the Democrats are doing.

Right now, if the 2026 midterms were happening next week, the Republicans would get their teeth kicked in, if the economy turns up next year, then Republicans have a chance.

If you remember back in 1982, Reagan and the Republicans got defeated in Reagan’s first midterm election, then 2 years later Reagon won a massive landslide.

Trump's second term has been all about testing the limits of the executive powers of POTUS in the courts. He wins some, and he loses some. At least he is trying to help her somehow. Congress should be holding hearings on the issues Peters found with the 2020 election.
