As the artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing industries explode, trained STEM professionals are in high demand. Mathematics is foundational to these fields.
But mathematics is missing an important ingredient: people who are female or gender-diverse.
In New South Wales, for example, only one-third of high school graduates who complete mathematics at the highest level are female or gender-diverse. And when students choose university courses in December, a large proportion of these highly qualified people will step away from mathematics and STEM.

Anytime you seek to force "diversity" into any arena, standard MUST be lowered, usually markedly.
gender-diverse people.

New heard this term before.
And ask a Ranger about that, if you don’t believe it.
“Anytime you seek to force “diversity” into any arena, standard MUST be lowered, usually markedly.”
My first thought too. They kicked out the White Dudes. Kind of like a company that’s 10% black and 90% White kicking out the White Dudes and now claiming that they’re a ‘minority company’...technically true, but unless they run drugs, they won’t get much done.
“female and gender-diverse students”
So they added men to the female total? Problem solved.
“Diversity” means nothing to mathematics, or anything else.
“In New South Wales, for example, only one-third of high school graduates who complete mathematics at the highest level are female or gender-diverse. And when students choose university courses in December, a large proportion of these highly qualified people will step away from mathematics and STEM.”
You ever think that maybe they just don’t like it and want a different career path or struggle and are not good at it? Historically women have not pursued math at the higher level at the rate men do, not because they are discriminated against but because they just didn’t want to go down that path. There are lots of qualified women in the advanced math fields and they did the grunt work want to be there, that is the difference.
What does being “gender diverse” (yet another BS created term that means nothing because there is no such thing) and anyone in higher math is a scientist and science says XX or XY you can’t change or be both outside the genetic Klinefelter syndrome.
When I took Pre-Calculus in 1981 in a small New England prep school, my secular Turkish teacher had a habit of translating the variables for the two co-eds in the class “Think ‘Mink Coat’, two ‘mink coat’ squared . . .” etc. The girls thought it was cute, and they were not stupid, nor were they conservative.
Fifteen years later, I visited, and talked with the wife of the biology teacher/lacrosse coach. She just just said “He’d never get away with that now!” triumphantly. She took a gesture to get us all engaged in the content and showed me that my private school had bought into the garbage completely.
Of course, even then, I was teased repeatedly for openly backing “the actor” for president since 1975.
Given men, as a group, are rejecting college and schooling in general, why are they trying to make less spots for men available in the areas where men thrive?
Could it be thr agenda is a war on men?
They never are concerned about jobs where white males are underrepresented. NEVER.
Some people are better than other at math, and some are better at other things. Some people like things that others don’t. There is no problem with that. The problem is as usually a liberal forcing someone to do something they don’t really want to.
My daughter is not that great at math. One of the hardest things I ever did was help her with her calculus over the phone when she was at college. She had a hard time grasping some fundamentals. My son on the other hand intuitively just knew the principals.
So why force something on someone who does not really like it or is not good at it? My daughter is not less valuable because she is not good at math. She is very good at other subjects like biology. She has a degree in molecular biology. So why try to force her into higher math?
That is the problem with the left they want people to do what they want and be damned with what you want.
in this particular case that might not be.
Girls often excel at math in high school, far more than boys (in general). But then choose not to go into a math related field in college.
I am 100% lowering standards to attract anyone. But if the most qualified and being left out, I have no issue with attempts being made to recruit them.
It’s a new measure of national wealth, your GDP!
Misandry.
It’s pervasive because women have less practical experience and are easier to fool.
Scammers, frauds and crooks focus on manipulating women to for a quick buck.
Many medical, veterinary, and pharmacy schools now enroll more women than men. These women are intellectually capable of succeeding in any field of their choosing.
They are **choosing** not to pursue mathematics.
One axiom I’ll stand by is that water always seeks it’s own level. You don’t have to talk college material into going to college for something they excel at. They’ll find a way to do it. Naturally.
You may be right, but when I was in high school, most of students in the calculus AB advanced placement (AP) were boys, and none of the students in the calculus BC AP class were girls.
in general I agree with that.
But there is something about desk jobs, in dark windowless cubicles working for the rest of your life with numbers that seems even less appealing to women than men, even if the women are stronger at math.
