Following her historic win in Tuesday night's Miami mayoral runoff election, Eileen Higgins outlined her agenda.
“It feels heavy," Higgins said. "I know that people are expecting a lot from the City of Miami...
On the issue of immigration, the city has previously signed the controversial 287g agreement with immigration officials
Higgins gave her thoughts on that agreement.
“The city should never entered into that agreement,” she said. “There is no reason in the city of Miami that...

People probably got complacent, because they assumed that Trump would win.
I really wish that people would keep in mind that, if they don’t vote then they may never vote again.
Its all a bold faced leftist media lie .
She has no role but ceremonial .
Its a non partisan election. .
Miami Dade County runs the city .
The city of Miami was shut down by the state years ago .
The leftist media is very dangerous .
She and her supporters are commies, and to them ,all power comes from the barrel of a gun. ( Mao Tse Tung)
And so we can just keep our powder dry.
CW II will start with a collective of “city states” that become secessionists.Right now they presume to nullify federal law and have done so with impunity for many years.
The opening shots are now being fired as the Narcos and Commie Dems become financial allies.
“CW II will start with a collective of “city states” that become secessionists.Right now they presume to nullify federal law and have done so with impunity for many years.”
Cities have no chance in said conflict because of infrastructure needs to maintain populations. Logistical and strategic nightmares, which are just best left to rot after supply routes destroyed.
Well, maybe next time the Republicans should run a candidate who speaks English.
Vision or hallucination?
“Hyping” is too strong a term, but yes, it’s consistently mentioned. Because he did.
You know nothing of Miami. The county doesn’t “run” the city. I grew up in the City of Miami and now live in the adjacent city, the City of Coral Gables.
City mayors in Miami-Dade are the first of equals on their respective commissions, part of a “weak mayor” system. But the mayor leads. I assure you that my mayor, a solid conservative Republican, sets the agenda for Coral Gables. The job isn’t “ceremonial.”
The County doesn’t “run” any city within it. Like the State of Florida, it shares authority on some local matters. Where did you come up with the idea that Miami has ever been “shut down”? That’s pure fantasy.
BUT EVEN IF EVERYTHING YOU SAID WAS TRUE: this “non partisan” race was obviously partisan or President Trump wouldn’t have endorsed Gonzalez. Remember the three Democrat state supreme court justices in Pennsylvania who were retained last month? Those were supposedly “non partisan” elections too.
A loss is a loss is a loss. Everyone in Miami-Dade County knew that the current mayor is a solid Republican and everyone knew that Higgins isn’t, and she ran hard on that. So even if it is a meaningless local ceremonial post, the election results are a red flag as to where sentiment in this heavily Latin city has shifted.
That has never been an issue in the City of Miami.
In a Weak Mayor system, the City Council elects the City Manager who is the real leader. The Mayor is just the at-large seat on the council. The rest of the districts are single-member, and they will override her. She defeated the former city manager, who was the real leader of the city. The City Manager will be elected by the councilmen.
It reminds me in South Carolina of Hugh Leatherman’s plot to turn the government into a weak-Governor, strong Senate. The Lieutenant Governor was weakened to symbolic. The President of the Senate, elected by 46 officials and many counties are not represented, is the real leader of the state.
“Barrel of a gun”???? She won an election. No guns were used.
Your civil war fantasy suggests you’ve been playing too many video games.
A few years ago, my City of Coral Gables passed an ordinance banning plastic straws. Governor DeSantis got the state legislature to pass a law banning cities from doing so, and the ban was reversed.
“Right now they presume to nullify federal law and have done so with impunity for many years.” Nope.
The comment needed is an old standby; There goes the neighborhoods. Don’t stand under Miami as it heads for the bottom.
She has that quintessential AWFL look to her.
And in every pic I saw of her on Google where she’s on a stage or on the campaign trail, she’s got nothing around her but liberal females, or beta males.
She won because of local issues, including allegations of corruption in the prior administration. Her win had more to with that than any national Dim success.
Thanks for posting reality.
“[A]llegations of corruption” had nothing to do with it. For decades (up till this year) Joe Carollo has been a fixture as mayor and councilman and he’s the gold standard of corruption and criminality.
You are kidding yourself if you think that the race had nothing to do with party labels.
