Billionaire plots radical overhaul to CNN with top stars axed in stunning secret pitch to tempt Trump

Paramount boss David Ellison is believed to have assured Trump officials that if the government approves the company's acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), he would overhaul the President's media arch-nemesis, CNN.

Netflix announced last Friday that it reached a deal to acquire Warner and HBO properties for $72 billion, but Paramount immediately launched a hostile counterbid, taking its case directly to shareholders.

The Netflix-WBD merger is facing a stiff challenge from Paramount, whose majority shareholder is billionaire Trump ally, Oracle founder Larry Ellison.

On Monday, Paramount made its move, offering $77.9 billion in all-cash and urging Warner shareholders to reject the Netflix deal.

During a recent visit to Washington, DC, Ellison's son David told Trump's team that he would impose sweeping changes at CNN if he purchased its parent company WBD, sources told the Wall Street Journal.

Larry discussed firing hosts such as Erin Burnett and Brianna Keilar - figures Trump dislikes - during talks with White House officials last month, The Guardian reported.

The President reportedly told people close to him that he wants new ownership of CNN and changes to its programming.

CNN is one of the outlets Trump most likes to brand as 'fake news.' He often calls out its reporters, anchors and general news coverage as intentionally unfavorable to his agenda.

The younger Ellison was spotted Sunday night with Trump in the presidential box at the Kennedy Center Honors - just two days after Netflix's deal was announced and as Paramount prepared its counteroffer.

Sensing he was losing ground, David enlisted his father to lobby the White House on his behalf.

His father called the President after the deal was announced and told him the merger would hurt competition, according to a White House official and person familiar with the matter.

the President's media arch-nemesis, CNN

I would have to say they are more likely the people's and truth's arch nemesis and if they would go back to being a news organization instead of a DNC mouthpiece they would see their ratings increase.

I always hoped Rush would put a group together to buy CNN. Rename it the Conservative News Network

Add ABC to Trump’s top enemy list, and NBC.

Fire ‘em all, let Newsmax provide the programming for CNN.

Then return Headline News Network to its original headline news format, but hire only buxom young women presenters, lower the temperature in the studio to 60 degrees, and rename it the Headlight News Network. Ratings would be off the charts for 18-55 year old men.

It’s one thing to voice that plan, and quite another thing to make it look like a quid pro quo, as in,
“Paramount boss David Ellison is believed to have assured Trump officials that if the government approves the company’s acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), he would overhaul the President’s media arch-nemesis, CNN.”.

The “journalists” at UK Daily Mail must have majored in creative writing instead of journalism. I’m so shocked.🙄

I am calling BS.

By the time this deal is done and any “takeovers” have happened, Trump will have 1 1/2 feet out of the door. These types of changes do not happen overnight—or even within a month or two.

I am all for changing CNN, but this sounds like tripe to me.

Netflix vs. Paramount. Like choosing between Tamerlane and Atilla the Hun. Real Americans have no stake in this fight.

Trump is obsessed with 20th century rejects - CNN, NYT, Kennedy Center, Nobel Prize, vaccines, etc.

Hostile corporate takeovers are not that difficult.

Move the HQ offices a couple thousand of miles away—and don’t offer to pay relocation to any employees you don’t want to keep.
