Democratic governors unite around affordability message ahead of crucial 2026 midterm elections

PHOENIX (AP) — Democratic governors met this weekend in Arizona, looking to parlay last month's big victories for the party in New Jersey and Virginia into campaigns for next year's midterms, when a majority of governor's seats will be up for election.

Those elections helped Democrats zero in on what they see as a strategy to help grow their ranks in office and recover from big losses in 2024, when voters put Donald Trump back in the White House and gave Republicans majorities in both houses of Congress.

The plan is to focus intently on making life more affordable, a message they hope will work even in some conservative-leaning states.

"We have to be laser focused on people's everyday concerns and how hard life is right now for the American people," said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, the new chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and a possible candidate for president in 2028. "Everybody wants the economy of tomorrow, but paying the bills today is absolutely critical."

They all supported Biden and his inflationary policies, etc. which caused the bulk of the problems, but by golly they're now going to be the ones who can fix it...

That may be true. But so what?

I already have affordability fatigue.
Unless the solution is open borders and welfare I don’t think dems are going to come up with a solution.

They have been obvious about making “affordability” their big issue. It will call for a concerted effort by the GOP to counter the propaganda. I hope they are preparing for war.

So what??? Here’s the message the GOP should be pushing...

Biden left the border wide open allowing at least 15 million to illegally enter into the country....then DemoKKKrat governors invited the illegals into their state causing a housing crisis...then blue governors such as hochul from NY incentivized landlords to rent to the illegals, handing out huge bonuses and lots of upfront money, causing a housing affordability crisis...then, after demoKKKrat governors invited illegals to their state and paid higher than market rents to house these people, they handed out freebies such as pre-paid debit cards and gave them free medical care- further escalating the affordability crisis...

That is the message the GOP should be pushing...

When Democrats say “we” run for your life.

They have new plans to make you as miserable as possible.

That totally flys in the face of common sens and reason. Who in their right mind would think they can or even would fix it? Only the unreachable ideologue would think the broadband disaster that the democrats are could possibly not care.

Republicans should coalesce around adopting an anti-Sharia amendment to the Constitution, that in no matter criminal or civil in any court in the country or in any jurisdiction will Sharia law prevail over the US Constitution, no matter what the proclivities or allegiances of any or all parties. Not needed? We “didn’t need “ a marriage amendment in the nineties, we had the “defense of marriage act.”

When you have people who are not citizens stealing tax dollars and living in luxury, and when not working can give you a quality of life that many who have worked their tails off cannot afford, you have fueled the affordability crisis.

Bringing in millions of illegals fuels the affordability crisis in many, many ways. The absolute stupidity of Obamacare has fueled the lack of affordability.

Essentially everything the cancer that is the Democrat party has wrought has decreased affordability and our quality of life.

The Democrats have a simple message. Things are expensive and it’s Trump’s fault.

Excellent. Let them harp on affordability. Sales taxes, property taxes, income taxes, and gas taxes, all of which they love, make everything a lot less affordable.

Democrats have an absolutely damning record on affordability and that should be broadcast all day, every day.

It’s going to be tough. The issue is perfect for the rats/MSM. Very easy to spin very complicated to counter.

Interesting, because Republicans ran on the following message (in part) in 2024: "Biden-flation is killing us."

Trump can counter the message. He's great at it.

He's distracted at the moment. He would like to end the war in Ukraine. I agree with that, yes.

But I'll delegate that task to Rubio until they are ready to sign the peace deal (it'll still take a while).

As all politicians race to blather about affordability doing nothing about it because they can’t stuff the genie back in the bottle.

Bidet and obama left us a s__t sandwich we are going to be eating for a very very long time. But, most of the voters will forget or lap it up just like they did 9/11 when they elected a muzzie as President.

The population fits in a bell curve. Half the population falls below center and a lot way below center, the other half aren’t anything to crow about either.

Trump is now in the White House so it's his fault even though he did not create the affordability crisis—he's supposed to fix it.

“Politicians can solve almost any problem — usually by creating a bigger problem. But, so long as the voters are aware of the problem that the politicians have solved, and unaware of the bigger problems they have created, political ‘solutions’ are a political success.” - Dr. Thomas Sowell
