This is the terrifying moment a huge knifeman with a face contorted with rage stabbed a diminutive policewoman's head, leaving her with a bloody wound.
PC Holly Matthews, who is 5ft 2in, bravely grappled with 6ft 4in Declan Diedrick after she and another officer were called to an address.
In extraordinary scenes shown to jurors, she desperately tried to subdue the 25-year-old as they stumbled from the hallway and into the kitchen.
They eventually tumbled out into the garden where Diedrick stabbed at the officer, narrowly avoiding her eye as he slashed above her ear.
He was eventually brought down by the officers and handcuffed, after which PC Matthews had the wound glued by medics at hospital.
She has been left with a permanent scar and described in a harrowing witness impact statement today how she still suffers from insomnia and nightmares two years after the incident in Harlow, Essex.
Speaking after the attacker was convicted last month, Detective Superintendent Dan Morrissey, of Essex Police, said: ‘The determination and violence Diedrick showed that night was truly horrifying.
‘One of the officers attacked described Diedrick's actions as like something from a Scream film.’
Diedrick has now been jailed for five years, with an extended licence period of three years, after a jury convicted him of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Judge Charles Bourne, sitting at Chelmsford Crown Court, said: 'We all depend on the police like them who come out in response to an emergency call with no idea what to expect...
Diedrick had suffered a cannabis-related psychotic episode, the court heard, and had failed to recover six months later when his brother called police on December 29, 2023, to ask for assistance due to his erratic behaviour.

DEI very nearly got this officer killed. Not everyone can or should be a cop. They did her no favors pining a badge on her, they just set her up to fail so they could feel good about themselves.

I don’t think law enforcement is allowed to have a height or weight requirement any longer. I guess that would theoretically include Dwarfs & ‘Munchkins’.
