President Donald Trump has signed a resolution backed by members of Alaska’s Congressional delegation to revoke restrictions on drilling in the National Petroleum Reserve on the North Slope.
The White House announced Friday evening that Trump had signed Senate Joint Resolution 80 into law.
SJR 80 uses the Congressional Review Act to reverse restrictions enacted during the administration of President Joe Biden. Those restrictions, imposed as part of a 2022 activity plan for the reserve, were intended to protect environmentally sensitive areas against harm from oil and gas drilling.
...
Friday’s signing was one of several Trump administration actions taking place simultaneously to reduce regulatory obstacles for developers interested in drilling within the reserve.

The original estimates of NPRA reserves were 10s of billions of barrels.
Then some test drilling was actually done. USGS got the result.
They reduced the reserves estimate by 90%. 90%!!!
Most very recent maneuvers (by Alaska types wanting employment drilling, regardless of finding anything) have said yes, it reduced 90% because it’s not oil. It’s gas!!
Now, be aware this is not shale rock. Fracking is not relevant here. There is nothing in play here for anti fracking this or that. It’s conventional drilling for a hoped for conventional field.
Prudhoe bay is going empty. Alaska is desperate. The best data we have says this is wasted effort.
I saw gas down here in Tampa going for $2.69.
With Trump oil production going up, there may be an oil glut coming, and gas may end up being cheaper than a gallon of water. (Hopefully).
“It’s gas!!”
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimates 1.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas resources lie undiscovered in the portions of the Alaska North Slope located to the west of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska (NPR-A), according to a newly released assessment that included a mix of federal, state and Alaska Native lands. The analysis underlying this assessment also found that geologic conditions in the area are too hot to support oil, so no assessment was made of oil resources in this study.
On Alaska’s North Slope, the USGS studies geologic hazards and resources, climate change, wildlife and ecosystems, surface and mineral mapping, water quality and foundational geology. This assessment is one of a series of USGS oil and gas assessments on the North Slope mandated by Department of the Interior Secretarial Order 3352, which was issued in May 2017.
“This new assessment shows that we still have much to learn about Alaska’s North Slope,” said Sarah Ryker, USGS Associate Director for Energy and Minerals. “There has been speculation for decades that this area west of the NPR-A might be rich in oil. However, the limited geologic data we have indicate the rocks assessed contain modest natural gas, but likely no oil. That finding helps the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the State of Alaska and the Alaska Native Corporations understand the natural resources that they manage.”
We have a couple here in Upstate NY at the same price. I’d say down a buck from last year.
**Trump signs law that revokes some limits on drilling...**
Ain’t good enough. How about all limits?
TDS, of course.
