Russia is gaining territory in Ukraine at one of the fastest rates since the war began, new data show, ahead of an emergency Downing Street summit.
The Kremlin’s army seized 200 square miles of territory in November, up from 100 square miles the previous month, according to DeepState, a trusted Ukraine-based battlefield map.
The speed of advance was approaching the fastest since the initial invasion almost four years ago, the Institute for the Study of War, a US think tank, said

LOL they claim deepstate is a trusted source
And of course they quote the Neocon ISW like the western media loves to do
Independent sources report the situation is even worse for Ukraine
Whenever Zeepers need another hit of hopium about Ukraine (or the EU’s inevitable slow-motion collapse), the legacy media dutifully delivers a fresh, daily batch of rosy headlines. Their entire three-year "we are winning" narrative has been propped up by an endless drip-feed of feel-good fiction
I’m surprised that this headline appeared in the western media
And the UK of all places
The war is over. The UK/EU is responsible for all the damage and lives lost now. This could have been settled 10 months ago.
They are the ones keeping their puppet clown Zelensky from negotiating and ending it.
Rapidly gaining? 200 whole square miles in a month? This is funny. 200 square miles is slightly more than an area 14 miles by 14 miles.
I asked Grok about General Patton’s gains in a month fighting the Nazi’s. Quotes from Grok: “Approximately 15,000–16,000 square miles of French territory were liberated by the Third Army in the month of August 1944.” and “Average daily advance: over 500 square miles per day in August.”
Someone please tell me just why is 200 square miles for the invincible Russian army is so great for a months work? Someone tell me why the Euro weanies are claiming to be so afraid the mighty Russian army?
This rapid advance of 200 whole square miles in as little as a month means when they invade the rest of Europe those in Western European armies can have a full 20 year career and retire long before the Ruskies get to their homeland.
At a rate of 200 sq. miles per month, it would take more than THREE YEARS to conquer only Clark County, NV.

Regards,
Different time and place, and different situation. The Germans had held the line in the French hedgerow country until the Allies developed new tactics to overcome their defenses that utilized the terrain. Once the breakthrough was achieved with the help of tactical bombing, the Germans shifted into what military historians describe as a retreat, straight out of the (German) textbook. They placed less emphasis in defending every square inch of occupied France; they were planning ahead to defending the homeland at the Siegfried line.
Ukraine more resembles a WWI stalemate except with modern technology, with no occupied territory between the two that one or the other of them can use to tactical advantage.
Attritional warefare has little to do with territory. It draws the enemy into crucibles and encirclements, ( Marioupol, Bakmut, Avidivka, Petrovsk)....then liquidates them.
Anyone closely following the lines of contact have seen this tactic played over and over. The 800 mile front in just the past year have seen the stretched Ukies fall into Vlads trap over and over again.....
Post war analysis of Ukie casualties will make the war cheerleader’s head’s explode.....as will the extent of Ukraine’s damage to infrastructure.

3 Nights of Endless Strikes💥Battle for Seversk: Decisive Phase⚔️Military Summary For 2025.12.07
The 7-800 missile and drones launched NIGHTLY are hitting their mark, all across Ukraine, from the East to the West.

Maybe they'll fight to The Last Ukrainian Alive before they're able to get a Peace Agreement.
Apparently, the Zeepers couldn't keep the Telegraph!
Oh, well, ...
The metric of success of Russia’s SMO isn’t square miles per day—it’s the complete destruction of Ukraine’s ability to sustain the war. Russia has focused on exhausting Ukrainian reserves, degrading its energy grid, and forcing NATO to bleed resources. A “mere” 200 square miles gained in a month represents the collapse of fortified defensive lines that took Ukraine and NATO years to build. Each mile gained comes at disproportionate cost to the defender. Sit back and learn. This will be over soon much to the angst of you Neocons.
Could the increased rate of advance be because thy have finally captured all the highly fortified cities??
I’m not a big fan of Zelensky. I think that he is more interested in his career than the welfare of the country he is supposed to be serving. I almost think that Ukraine will be better off as part of Russia because that will be a time when there aren’t any more people being killed in a war.
“Attritional warefare has little to do with territory. “
Advancement becomes attritional warfare when you cannot advance ...
“Attritional warefare has little to do with territory. “
LOL! Since 2002 Russia has lost territory.
Lost gold.
Lost men.
Lost weapons.
Going broke.
Pay no attention to the Russians telling us REPEATEDLY that it's NOT about "territory", but about killing the AFU...
REPEATEDLY.
Check all the stupid effing zeepers on this thread screaming that it’s about “territory”.
It’s embarrassing to be posting on the same board as those dimwitted Buffoons.
This is what makes Russia-Ukraine discussions difficult.
On one side you have pro-Russian posters that make a lot of points but forget that Russia DID invade Ukraine, and is thus the aggressor.
On the other side you have pro-Ukrainian posters that similar make a lot of points that are not anchored in reality. It is OK to provide a feel-good narrative (eg, Russians are losing a lot of soldiers, which they are) but the bias is usually very easy to see (eg, talking about Russian dead and maimed and ignoring that Ukraine is not only having its own dead and maimed as well, but it started with a lower population, front line troops are not being rotated, and it is starting to have measurable manpower concerns).
So, take your post. You compare the 200 miles with the HUGE gains that General Patton had in WW2.
Looks like a fair point, until one realizes that General Patton was not operating on a 100% transparent battlefield, with swarms of FPV drones swarming around anything moving in that (did I say transparent) battlefield, and distributed kill chains that would make any WW2 general faint in awe.
It is different.
It would be like someone asking why Ukraine is being pushed back by Russia when the US military pounded the Taliban hard until Biden decided to turn tail and run! That would be a silly comparison.
As for why the Euroweenies are afraid of the Russian army? Good question, VERY simple answer.
- It is not because they cannot defeat the Russian army conventionally (as much as there is materiel shortage in Europe, the EU is over ten times the economy of Russia).
- It is because any European politician who led his people into a war with Russia would be massively unpopular. Thus, they can ‘show solidarity’ but they struggle to even channel Russian assets to Ukraine!
- Additionally, the game plan is to empower Ukraine to fight Russia, where they give weapons and intelligence to Ukraine but it is the Ukrainians doing the dying.
- Then there is the nuclear problem. Sure, I know some on the pro-Ukrainian side even say that it is likely that the Russian nukes don’t even work, and maybe they do not. Nothing impossible under the sun.
However: There is NO European political leader who will be willing to gamble on that with the risk quotient being betting London/Berlin/Paris in exchange for Kyiv.
Nope. Not one!
Even the most anti-Russian European countries (eye, Poland, Czech Republix, Slovakia) will NOT be willing to risk Warsaw, Prague, or Bratislava for Odesa, Kharkiv, or Dnipro.
…and that is the problem with the Russia-Ukraine war. Ukraine is in a bad position. It has allies, but they cannot go the whole way.
Sad, but true.
It is just that both sides don’t want to see the truth (that it is costly for Russia in many ways, and that it is costly for Ukraine in many ways).
…no matter how people want to ‘massage’ things.
For at least two years, Russia's goal has been to destroy the Ukrainian military to either force a surrender or take any additional territory it deemed necessary after it built a land bridge from mainland Russia to Crimea.
The war was never a stalemate and there was never a scenario where Ukraine could win or gain territory back.
