Blue states pass higher taxes. And you know who gets the privilege of getting to pay for it? I do!
Yippiee!!!
And it only helps the high earners anyway. Most average Americans won’t even use the higher SALT deduction because they still fall below the standard deduction.
Agreed. This was disgusting, Hochul and Newsome loved it.
I agree.
It was disgusting to cap the deductibility of state income and real estate taxes.
Any time a politician limits tax deductions they are stealing more money from working Americans.
It was very socialist to cap the deductibility of state income or real estate taxes. After all, that lets Leviathan consume more, which back in the day conservatives hated.
Anyone who’s unhappy about the raising of the cap on tax deductions is a tax-and-spend leftist, pure and simple.
Disgusting indeed.
I'm 78, and I've never used it.
I apologize in advance…
And?
I am a high earner, are you telling me because I make more money that I should pay more? I do! I make more I pay more. Should I not have any sense of not wanting to be double taxed? I live in Virginia, I will pay just shy of 80k in state taxes, I also employ many people, I have grown the pie, built products, paid for healthcare, but are people on this board going to say… yea but it only impact high earners? Or it hasn’t ever impacted me?
We are supposed to be republicans, conservatives, I should damn well keep more than 50%of the money I make. So when something comes my way that finally improves my taxable perspective people are going to bitch? Go join the Democrats, how I am the evil business owner who barely puts in 90 hour weeks yes please tax my capability more. I mean from those with the greatest ability to those with the greatest need right?
We are the ones that build, we are the ones that employ, we are the ones that start, we are the ones that risked it all to begin. Get behind this, it is also good for those of us who are entrepreneurs, not just the big city people.
All we do is pay. Never had family tax credits, never had anything back from the government as a hand out, we just build, it’s in our nature, so I suppose I should not be shocked to hear here, that we should take more from me. I pay an endless stream to Medicare for you, you’re welcome. I cap out social security, you’re welcome. I pay high state tax, High property tax, sales tax, we consume more and pay more in tariffs yet won’t receive a dime.
Yea flame away, Conservative? You damn right I am. Everyone needs to wake up and realize the reality is simple. Without us builders, us makers all we have is an unmotivated, underdeveloped labor force wondering how they put food on the table.
You’re 1000% correct. Taxes should be equal regardless of income and the “make the rich pay more” is about the biggest asinine lie I’ve ever heard.
The top 5% of earners, those making $261,591 and above, paid over $1.3 trillion in income taxes, accounting for about 61% of the total with an average tax rate over 23%.
The top 10% of earners, with incomes starting at $178,611, contributed approximately 72% of total income taxes.
The top 50% of earners are responsible for 97% of federal income tax revenue.
The bottom 50% (that’s 50% of all taxpayers )pay less than a 4% tax rate.
What the heck are you talking about?….lol
I agree with you a 100%.
I wish concept of tax-exempt entities were completely eliminated. No exceptions. If a church takes in more than they pay out for charitable purposes or operating expenses, pay tax on what they retain. Non-profit status is a scam.
Well said!
I am a retired state worker in Va. I get a pension from the state. What people don’t know is that the state withheld 5% of my salary to fund that pension. Not only that, they tax that same pension because it was taken pre-tax. I am drawing down my TIAA 403b account which is also taxed.
When you retire, your job is to pay taxes.
This high-income taxpayer fled Illinois because of the taxes that were raised fifty-four times in six years under JB Pritzker.
The elimination of the SALT tax hurt me financially sure, it was a net TAX INCREASE for me personally and I sure paid it alright.
While I no longer owned a business and employed people (haven't for twenty years) I do understand exactly what you're talking about and applaud your post.
As a non-business owner who was paying over $30k/yr in taxes JUST TO THE STATE OF IL for the "privilege" of living there, I fled its blue state tax tyranny for the freedom of Tennessee. I will be retiring by mid-2026 thanks to the tax savings I'll have for the next three years that go back into MY pocket and not into IL Gov. Fatso's JB Pritzkers.
While many will argue the truth of what you said, anyone who's ever started up and owned a business in a high-tax state such as yours knows EXACTLY what you're talking about. Our productivity, job creation, innovation and taking care of our employees is PUNISHED by blue states who clearly do not want us.
Best to you and yours!
I deliberately moved to a state that doesn't tax income (or retirement income) for that purpose.
Yes but we are living where my wife grew up in Appalachia. The best two options are states with taxes. We could move to Tennessee but we don’t know anyone there.
You know me now, and I live in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. Best place on earth to live, IMO.
And to add insult to injury, much of it is lost to waste, fraud and abuse.
I sneak a peek at Johnson City on Zillow sometimes since I graduated from App State. We used to drive there to buy liquor as freshman. We considered the Boone area but prices were unrealistic considering the massive number of houses available.
We picked Giles County because it is cheap, close to places with Aldis and such and we have a hospital. Plus my wife knows everyone here so a huge support network. I enjoy the friendliness of everyone here.
I’m certainly not saying that you should be taxed more. If you live in a high tax state, blame your state. Do you think you should pay less federal tax because your state has high taxes?
I’m all for lowering Federal taxes. I just don’t know why Federal taxes should be lowered for people who live in high tax states, but not for those who live in low tax states.
By the way, thanks for creating jobs!
Youngest is in Crossville and hates it. Trying to convince him to move to Johnson City where there's way more opportunity.
There's much to be said for having a solid support network where you're living. I uprooted from Hellinois to move to Tennessee where a few friends live now. (They moved here four years ago.) I'm not exactly starting over building my social network / support network but it's retty close. Still, I absolutely LOVE Tennessee!
