Desperate to replace money that she had allegedly stolen from three friends by lying to them and saying she had bought plane tickets for their daughters to travel with her to Florida, a 47-year-old woman went to the Promenade on the Peninsula in Rolling Hills Estates to find a vulnerable victim, which ended up being a 66-year-old retired nurse, prosecutors said during closing arguments of her trial Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Cherie Lynnettee Townsend is charged with murder in the May 3, 2018 stabbing death of Susan Leeds of Rancho Palos Verdes, who was found bloodied and with 17 stab wounds, including having her throat slashed, in her SUV inside the parking structure.
Jurors were handed the case at the end of the day and were to return to Torrance Superior Court Thursday morning to begin deliberating the charge against Townsend following a weeks-long trial.

Everyone, we are all getting older. Stay alert and fit. Maybe not do things alone if possible. Parking garages are notorious places for robberies and violent attacks.
Unfortunately it's not a weird story but an all too common event of black-on-white murder. It's just written in a way to bring attention to the murderer's financial plight -- oh poor baby.

This is so unnecessarily convoluted. This criminal was not “desperate to replace stolen money.” Does anyone honestly think she would have used the nurse’s money to repay old debts? By all appearances, this stone-cold murder and robbery for no other reason.
Oh! You were going to use the money to pay off debts? Not guilty then!
Let the prisoner go free without a stain on her character!

Pretty clever strawman from a public defender. I think it will be enough. The victim's family should already be making plans to carry out true justice on this soulless monster when the jury frees her.
