FCC Considers Jettisoning Longstanding Rule Limiting Broadcasters (from monopolies)
America First Report ^ | 12/1/2025 | Jacob Adams, Daily Signal

The Federal Communications Commission currently caps an entity from reaching more than 39% of U.S. TV households, but the federal agency is considering changing that rule. The longstanding federal regulation will likely be the topic of a Dec. 17 Senate Commerce Committee hearing, chaired by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, where all three FCC commissioners are set to testify.

The federal rule has divided Republican leaders. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has considered modifying the federal agency’s cap on commercial broadcasters in the past.

“Over the decades, as the media landscape has evolved, the Commission has revisited these rules to account for new competitors and advances in technology,” Carr said in a statement released in June.

“Those changes have only accelerated in recent years with the advent of online offerings. Broadcasters now compete for eyeballs with YouTube stars, social media platforms, and streaming services like Hulu and Netflix, not to mention traditional cable and satellite offerings,” the federal regulator continued. Carr went on to explain that he believed the FCC had the authority to change the cap without further legislative action by Congress.

Here is a crazy thought: Limit the Gov to allocating frequency spectrum such that signals don’t interfere with each other.

Given the way new technology can now use the same frequency for many purposes, the spectrum is not as limited as it used to be.

In 1994 there were 1,100 media outlets. Today there are 26.

The powers that be are known to become quite irritated when challenges to their preferred narrative dare surface.

They insist that theirs be the only one permitted.

Put a requirement that satellite and streamers offer Ala carte choices. We are REQUIREDD to pay for Disney and ESPN and foreign channels.

Never heard the other shoe drop when Soros took over all those radio stations. Will there be support for the Leftist revolution coming shortly? Pushback to save illegals and criminals increasing soon?

FCC Quietly Expedites Soros-Backed Purchase of Over 200 Radio Stations
September 30, 2024

By Lawson Faulkner

Billionaire activist George Soros has been authorized to purchase Audacy, the second largest radio network within the United States, gaining access to the ears of as many as 150 million Americans on the eve of a consequential election cycle. On Monday, the FCC publicly acknowledged the deal, voting 3-2 to transfer over 200 radio stations across 40 markets to a Soros-backed group with unprecedented speed.

Given the group’s past flaunting of the FCC approval process, it is surprising that regulators would expedite Soros’s controversial purchase. However, given the many prominent conservative voices calling the Audacy network home, it is unsurprising that the Democrat-controlled FCC would make an exception for a major party donor on the cusp of a pivotal presidential election.

Following Audacy’s February bankruptcy filing, Soros Fund Management, LLC purchased $400 million in debt to become the network’s largest shareholder. Over the past few years, the 93-year-old Soros has acquired a taste for strategic media investments.

Music is worse off when there are fewer radio station owners. We have bland bleak sameness now.

I agree, I continue to find new and interesting bands on Instagram of all places. I may hear something I like and go look for it. Recently found a new young jam band called: Dogs In A Pile and they are fantastic, remind me of the Allman Brothers from 55 years ago.

“In 1994 there were 1,100 media outlets”

All with one progressive voice in unison.

“Today there are 26.”

Some conservative, some progressive.

Perhaps I’d prefer 1100 over 26 in a theoretical match up, but the reality of the lack of diversity in news all those decades ago makes today’s 26 a significant upgrade over the 1100 of yore.
