Dem-leaning group roasts NY’s green energy law as an ‘undeniable’ failure as customers zapped by soaring costs

It’s been one big, green goof.

The Empire State’s green energy push has been a pie-in-the-sky bust as politicians hit the brakes on their alternate energy goals — and New Yorkers get sticker shock from ever-soaring utility bills, a scathing new report found.

The analysis by the Democratic-leaning think tank the Progressive Policy Institute found a “clear and undeniable pattern of failure” across the most critical mandates of the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Act.

“New York set bold climate targets, but ignored the economic and technical realities required to achieve them,” said PPI’s report author Neel Brown.

“The result is an energy system that is less reliable, more expensive, and now politically unsustainable. Unless policymakers course correct, the state risks turning a climate leadership story into a cautionary tale,” he added.

Key findings from the report:

Electricity prices are 44% higher than the national average, and residential rates have risen 36% since 2019, nearly three times faster than the rest of the country. New Yorkers pay 24.4 cents per killowatt hour, compared to 16.5 cents on the US average, the report showed.

Utilities are pursuing additional rate hikes of roughly 20%, driven by aging infrastructure, storm repairs and rising operating costs, adding further pressure on households already facing higher energy bills.

New York is behind on nearly every major climate mandate, including offshore wind, which is 1% operational, and energy storage, which is 8% operational toward 2030 goals. Only solar power is on track.

Fossil fuels still supply nearly half of New York’s electricity, and the “premature” closure of Indian Point nuclear power plant in Westchester — a major supplier of zero-emissions energy to the Big Apple — slowed the state’s progress for clean energy.

In sum, the report said, the timelines for the green energy mandates are impractical.

only liberals could think reducing supply while increasing demand would lower prices.............

The BIG PROBLEM, of course, is that Trump and the Republicans will be blamed for the Democrats DEMANDING that the sea part for them (i.e., that the laws of physics be violated). As obvious as this is to our side, the lack of Billionaires to finance getting our point out will likely mean that we get stuck with the blame.

Liberals are all about doing what feels good at that moment. They never give a thought to the next month or the next year.

And so a conservative politician has to come along to clean up the mess. For example, after Biden came Trump.

Now, here’s New York’s problem. No conservative politician will be coming along, ever.

Liberals won’t stop with the Green Energy push just because energy bills shoot up for the peasants. Germany is proof of that. The only reason they’ll reverse course is that their globalist puppet masters will demand more power generation for their new idol, AI data centers.

Might that explain the “affordability crisis”?

Apparently, what I was taught in 6th grade is no longer curriculum in public schools or universities. By design and on purpose, the dumbing down and ignorance of the American people is right on track and on plan.

Being an idiot is fine. It is your right to be so. Just stop being useful to other idiots en-masse.

The only thing the “green” narrative promoters ever figured out was what they wanted, what they wanted to demand, in terms of goals. There was no plan as to any practicality of any of it or how costs at the consumer would be affected. They didn’t care. They would not even be pretending to care right now, no matter the costs, if their non-plan plan was reaching their “CO2” goals, they still would be applauding the results, regardless of the financial suffering of the consumers.

“New Yorkers pay 24.4 cents per killowatt hour, compared to 16.5 cents on the US average, “

That’s a bargain compared to around 40 cents in CA.

I'm thinking Stefanik has a shot at it. No, she's not fully a "conservative" but she's getting there.

Ask me how far back that a lot of us had this one figured out.
Not sure this would even count as news.

Who could not have seen this coming? All this yammering about “green energy being cost-competitive with fossil and nuclear” was all BS. I spent most of my career in energy systems and economics of power plants. Any power engineer knew from the get-go these systems would require huge price hikes for consumers.

But that is EXACTLY what the greeniacs wanted — high energy prices to drive down energy consumption. The old Sec’y of Energy Steven Chu spilled the beans years ago when he said he WANTED $10/gallon gasoline prices.

Yet people keep voting for Democrats and these horrible energy policies.

I thought all those farm fields growing solar panels and upstate hillsides covered with ugly, giant whirling bird slicers were supposed to solve everything?

Meanwhile we sit on untapped huge gas deposits in the Marcellus shale beds.

It really takes stupid people to screw this up so bad. I can't wait to find out how much it is going to cost to clean up broken fields and toppled ginsu blenders in the future.

They could cut electric bills with rotating power outages. Cut bills almost in half by only letting folks use electricity 12 hours a day. That’s the way they do it in other third world jurisdictions.
