Putin says Russian army has surrounded Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk

Russian forces have surrounded the embattled Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk and control 70% of it, President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, but Kyiv's top general said Ukraine was pushing back hard and that fighting was raging in the city centre.

Moscow has been trying to take full control of Pokrovsk, which Russians call by its Soviet-era name of Krasnoarmeysk, since mid-2024 as part of its push to take the whole of the wider Donbas industrial region.

Instead of mounting a full frontal assault on the city, which used to be home to over 60,000 people and be an important logistics hub for the Ukrainian military, Russian forces have used a pincer movement to seek to steadily encircle it while initially infiltrating in small and then larger assault groups.

Moscow says taking Pokrovsk, dubbed "the gateway to Donetsk" by Russian media, would give it a platform to drive north towards the two biggest remaining Ukrainian-controlled cities in the Donetsk region - Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

Pressure on the city comes at a time when the United States is trying to broker a possible peace plan to end the deadliest European conflict since World War Two with both sides eager to show they have the upper hand on the battlefield.

Speaking at a news conference in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday, Putin said that Ukrainian forces in Pokrovsk and the neighbouring town of Myrnohrad, which Russians calls Dimitrov, were in deep trouble and that Ukraine might face a collapse of its frontline in certain places. "Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) and Dimitrov (Myrnohrad) are completely surrounded," Putin told reporters, saying that some of Kyiv's most combat-ready troops were being destroyed in the process.

Seventy percent of Krasnoarmeysk's territory is in the hands of the Russian armed forces.

This must be the 3rd or 4th time the Russians have announced this encirclement.

Yawn.

What about this don't you understand?

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/us-army-secretary-warned-ukraine-imminent-defeat-pushing-initial-peace-rcna245704

In a meeting with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv last week, U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll delivered a grim assessment.

Driscoll told his counterparts their troops faced a dire situation on the battlefield and would suffer an imminent defeat against Russian forces, two sources with knowledge of the matter told NBC News.

The Russians were ramping up the scale and pace of their aerial attacks, and they had the ability to fight on indefinitely, Driscoll told them, according to the sources. The situation for Ukraine would only get worse over time, he continued, and it was better to negotiate a peace settlement now rather than end up in an even weaker position in the future.

And there was more bad news. The U.S. delegation also said America’s defense industry could not keep supplying Ukraine with the weapons and air defenses at the rate needed to protect the country’s infrastructure and population, the sources said.

Driscoll’s message came after he had presented a U.S.-backed peace plan that Kyiv officials viewed as a capitulation to Moscow, according to the two sources.

“The message was basically — you are losing,” one of the sources said, “and you need to accept the deal.”

Ukraine is slowly trading space for time while killing as many Rooskies as possible. When Ukraine abandons the city, it will be nothing more than a moonscape. That is the pattern.

So what? Surrender doesn't mean an end to the killing: Russia will execute and imprison almost all of Ukraine's political class and all its officers and most of its non-coms.

Destroying infrastructure and killing civilians doesn't improve the military situation for Russia.

And Ukraine can successfully blackmail Europe for more aid by threatening them with being inundated with another 10 - 20 million refugees.

Much cheaper for Europe to keep equipping Ukraine to kill Russians.

One of our regular Ukrainian partisans posted a day or two ago that Ukraine had driven all Russians out of Pokrovsk with one of their airborne units. And took the whole town back.

He believed what he posted.

There’s another who says Ukraine is stocking up 300,000 drones and will unleash them on Moscow after the first of the year. Creating total blackout.

He also believed what he posted.

Yawn.

Yes, the surrounded Ukrainians are certainly getting sleepy.

No food.

No safe water.

No heat or fires.

Freezing cold.

No rest.

No relief, the war just Drones On for them.

The only choice they have is to die or run the gauntlet left open for them and probably die.

And they know how pleased Zelensky will be when he sees them running to him.

Not to worry though, Zelensky is warm and cozy, resting on all that American Taxpayer Cash stuffing his mattress, with Zeepers massaging his Ego, and other parts.

All is well.

People are not understanding.

This is neo magnets. Russia has all of them they want. They are BRICS and China has the monopoly.

All those guidance fins on Tomahawks . . . small, strong electric motors deflect them. Motors require magnets.

Those drone quad rotors? Electric motors. Require magnets.

We can’t squander our inventory. It has to last 10 yrs. Ukraine is far less important than an invasion of the US mainland, which would be the plan when it is clear we have zero, as in zero, electric motors anymore.

Game over. The Chinese have won in Ukraine.

That’s why he was Zotted here a few weeks ago. Seems FR isn’t interested anymore in people knowingly posting PURE LIES about the state of the war.

I’m getting the impression that some of these people actually WANT the US destroyed. Not sure why, but perhaps it’s because they don’t live here, or they simply hate Russia so bad that they don’t care what happens to the US (like Victoria Nuland). It’s ironic, but it seems Russia is more interested in the long-term survival of the US than these people.

I have to chuckle at comments like these.

You are alluding to an EMP attack. Such an attack would require a nuclear explosion in our airspace. What is amusing is the assumption that this would be a one-way transaction. The assumption seems to be that our military and government would be castrated to the point where there would be no response.

In reality, the end result would be a nuclear conflagration that would leave the world a shouldering ruin. Our response would be immediate and robust.

The BEST result would be a lack of electricity around the globe. The likely case would be a lot worse.

No one is invading the US. The logistics of that are nearly impossible today. After a nuclear exchange, the odds are even lower than nearly impossible.

How many dead Rooskies does it take to win a war?

Twice as many dead of the enemy?
Three times as many dead of the enemy?
Does it matter so long as there’s vodka to go around?

Europe has taken a beating over the years, no stranger to war.

Much of it self-imposed.

America should let Europe mind it's own business with a vengeance.
