WASHINGTON (WOWK) – West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey says two National Guard Members shot in an attack in Washington, DC on Wednesday were members of the West Virginia National Guard.
During a press conference in Washington, D.C., just before 5 p.m., officials confirmed that the soldiers remain in critical condition. They say the suspect is also in the hospital at this time.
Shortly before 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, DC Metro police confirmed they were on the scene of a shooting near 17th and I Streets NW, a few blocks from the White House.
Initially, Morrisey said the guard members had died, but he says he is now receiving conflicting information regarding their condition. He said his office will provide an update once he has the complete information.
“We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information,” Gov. Morrisey said. “Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community.”
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser says that it appears the attack was “targeted” against the National Guard.
According to officials, the soldiers were shot near the White House, and a suspect is in custody. Metro Police say the suspect reportedly came around a corner and immediately began firing at the soldiers. According to the MPD, other National Guard members in the area heard the shots and were able to detain the suspect on the ground after he had been shot.

Thank GOD!
That’s a trip to the Terre Haute death chamber.
Was the shooter a Democrat?
Only word on the shooter is that he is also in critical condition at hospital.
Is Morrisey the one who declared them dead in the first place? If so, he should resign immediately.
I don’t think so. I think it was just bad press.
Yes, but he was the source of the bad press.
I have no idea why the national news is saying this. Our local news is saying they are alive and in critical condition!
Notice this one from WSAZ says “conflicting reports”
Morrisey is not in DC he’s here in Charleston.
Two WV National Guard members critical after D.C. shooting
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAZ/AP) - West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said there are conflicting reports about the conditions of the two West Virginia Guard members earlier reported deceased.
During a news conference near the scene, federal officials later said both Guard members are in critical condition.
Two National Guard members were shot Wednesday near the White House, according to a law enforcement official not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and who spoke to AP on condition of anonymity.
Morrisey released the following statement, “We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information. Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community.”
Many times death(s) of this nature are not and should not be made public until their families have been notified first.
He didn’t ‘declare them dead’. He was probably repeating incorrect information provided by someone on his staff.
Antifa?
He only repeats what he’s told. I doubt that he was in the hospital. You would think that information would come through the WVNG chain of command so WVTAG to Governor. Blame them if you have to blame somebody!
Omygosh. I’m in no mood for this crap.
One thing is certain.
Whoever told Gov Morissey that the two NG had died,is not going to have a Happy Thanksgiving dinner because the person will not be able to sit at the table after the butt chewing received today.
How about I blame them all? Including Faux News.
Yeah. Severe miscommunication.
If you have to!
Shooter looks Arab. Just my opinion………
