Trump seizes control of Republicans' 2026 election strategy with his presidency on the line

Summary

WASHINGTON, Nov 24 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump isn't on the ballot in next November's midterm elections, but he’s plunging into them with his own presidency at stake. He's calling candidates, making early endorsements, shaping strategy and pushing economic messaging to try to keep Congress in Republican hands, according to nine Republicans involved in election strategy.

As early as this summer, 18 months before Election Day 2026, Trump was urging Republican congressmen exploring Senate or gubernatorial runs to stand for reelection instead to avoid party primary fights, according to a White House official, a senior Trump adviser and a party operative.

Such an early, hands-on involvement in midterm elections is unprecedented for a president in modern times.

"Presidents usually are wheeled into action later in the campaign season," said Bill Galston, who was a senior adviser in former Democratic President Bill Clinton's White House. "This is extremely unusual." TRUMP WHEELS INTO BATTLE EARLY

Trump's urgency spiked after state and local elections on November 4 when exit polling showed voters punished Republicans over the rising cost of living.

In multiple meetings immediately after the vote, Trump angrily told aides that Republicans should own the affordability message, the White House official told Reuters on condition of anonymity to discuss Trump's reaction.

The president reminded his staff that he had returned to the White House on a promise to tackle inflation. Republicans should not cede ground to Democrats on the issue but highlight where his administration had succeeded in bringing down prices, said the official, who was briefed on the meetings.

Not surprised that RINO are preparing to seize defeat from the jaws of victory. Too many Republicans like MTG, Massies and Nancy Mace are shameless opportunists. Sad.

I hate that we have to bribe voters the same way that Democrats do.

No one votes for principle anymore.

Trump MUST prioritize energy production and lower fuel prices.

These literally drive all retail inflation.

Weak leadership in the house and senate. Strong leadership in the executive branch.

Last week Rassmussen was invited to the white house. He did a couple youtubes on it. Since the summer of 2025 he had been predicting that on their current path they would lose the in in 2025 and lose the house in 2026.

He told them all of this plus all his crosstab results in his white house visit. along with ways to improve things.

He also visited the some congressional repupublicans and the RNC. he was thoroughy unimpressed with the RNC. their database is way of date. their machine is not as good as the democrat machine at turning out their base.

His impression of congressional people from the house and senate was that they seem like heritage foundation types and that the heritage foundation is not really aligned with below 40 republicans.

Trump and Johnson are gonna pay the price for not having Congress hard at work passing legislation during the government shutdown.

Not possible. Many Freepers here are absolutely guaranteeing a GOP House victory in November 2026. Well, they were several months ago.

The stratagey should be to point to the growing red States in purple states races.

“No one votes for principle anymore.”

It is sad but true, you can’t eat principle.

We seem to think that people who are struggling to keep themselves and their families afloat are going to willingly give up the crumbs they get from the government. It is a tough pill to swallow but you can’t give the voters nothing and expect them to eagerly support you.

Things are not great right now. They in many cases are better but apparently not better enough. There is a food pantry a few miles away from me and I passed it about 2 weeks ago and the line was longer than I have ever seen and this is not a poor area.

Obama got “shellacked” in midterms despite having the entire Media-Industrial Complex behind him.

Trump’s previous midterms resulted in democrats picking up 41 house seats, +7 governorships, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelousi.

2022 Democrats lost the House.

The writing is on the wall for 2026. Magical thinking and hopium needs to be called out.

MTG was the first to do this, then Nancy Mace. MTG just can't stand being a Representative of the People, when she can be a....(drum roll)...PODCASTER!!! (yeah, pretty lame, indeed)

As if her $25 million net worth she got from insider trading isn't enough. She just HAS to have the adulation that Tucker and Candace are getting. The GOP majority be damned!

Correct:

A review of 2025 / preview of 2026

Something about "those who refuse to learn from history...." occurs to me here.

“President Donald Trump isn’t on the ballot in next November’s midterm elections”

Ooooh, they got it wrong from the very first sentence they wrote.

Trump is ALWAYS on the ballot as long as he’s in office — at least according to the left. They require hatred to motivate them and what better object for their hatred than Trump?

Trump was for damn sure “on the ballot” in the 2018 midterm disaster whether his name was on there or not. And he will be “on the ballot” again for the 2026 midterms. Watch any Democrat campaign commercial and see.

I don’t doubt that MTG wont be quiet after retirement. She’s not quiet now, and Massie was always about Massie.
