Donald Trump wants a peace deal in Ukraine very badly.
Kyiv wants peace even more, just not at any cost.
That's why when the US began pushing it to agree to a deal by Thanksgiving on what looked close to surrender terms, Ukraine pushed back.
It scrambled senior officials to talks in Geneva and all of Sunday we saw delegates from the US and Ukraine shuttling back and forth between the two main venues in black limousines with darkened windows.
They were joined by national security advisers from Germany, France and the UK.
The only time I glimpsed Andriy Yermak, heading the negotiating team from Kyiv, he looked stony-faced.
No wonder: the starting proposal on the table was so skewed towards Russia's demands, the talks began with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio having to deny it had been written by the Kremlin.
But Donald Trump had been clear that Ukraine needed to sign up fast or face unspecified consequences. So Kyiv had to engage.
On Sunday night, Marco Rubio declared there'd been "tremendous progress" in the talks with just a "couple of things" still outstanding. When pressed, he wouldn't be more specific, calling the situation "delicate".
But a joint Ukraine-US statement says there's now a whole new deal in play, which it calls an "updated and revised framework document".
We haven't seen that yet. The Financial Times newspaper quotes one of the delegates, though - Ukraine's deputy foreign minister Sergiy Kyslytsya - who talks of a new 19-point plan with "very little left" from the original draft.
That new document likely incorporates at least some of the amendments proposed by the Europeans and published by Reuters news agency that point to something far more palatable for Kyiv.
In that version, an automatic veto on future Ukrainian Nato...

President Trump, “ Take this Peace plan or you are on your own”…and don’t forget” You ( St Z) have no cards to play”….that about sums it all up.
“$100 billion in frozen Russian assets will be invested in US-led efforts to rebuild and invest in Ukraine”

The Russians will want every dollar/Euro/pound of their money back, with interest/earnings.
At $40,000/year, paying 700,000 soldiers comes to $28 billion/year.
BBC, the mis-spelled Brit version of CNN. Plus pedos on staff, of course.
That is,, KNOWN pedos. CNN is probably rife with them but they have not been caught out just yet.
The EU could impose Ukraine support taxes that would fall on EU Internet operating revenue (i.e. mainly US companies). These taxes might be used to pay off new issue bonds.
The European governments are very talented at fleecing people and companies.
Leadership ability - just what the Crimean assault & recapture force will need, besides assault rifles.
I don’t see how Zelensky has anything to lose by delaying the recapture effort.
Will any younger relatives of the French general be helping out?
The three countries that want to continue the war is Ukraine, England and France. They won’t be happy until Russia and the rest of the world is obliterated. Of course this means that they won’t exist either, but their OK with that as long as Russia is gone.
They have destroyed their own economies and are on the verge of collapse. Their only hope of clinging to power is a world war and martial law.
No one knows what the updated plan says, particularly the writer of the article.
Witkoff is present with Rubio. He is not going to permit any significant changes without calling the President, who blessed what is already there, as Rubio said . . . it is an American plan.
But Trump did say it was not his final offered plan. There could be others, and they will be far worse.
Why do Russian Bots leave out Russia when they list those who want the war to keep going?
Wouldn’t the war end if Russia just went home?? Yes it would!!
(talk about beat with an ugly stick.)
It’s time to let green T-shirt man fight his own war. Exit stage right.
“Wouldn’t the war end if Russia just went home?? Yes it would!!”
I can almost hear your whiny beeyotch voice again: “They should just go home”. They’re not going to. Now what’s your practical idea to make them leave?
You consistently get it wrong. What’s your angle? Are you Ukrainian? There’s no scenario on earth where Ukraine takes crimea. It will never be allowed to happen. Why are you so bloodthirsty? Are you going to go lead the assault? Daft. Absolutely daft.
Looks like they just took it...

Calling me names is a weak attack. Ukraine’s plan is to stop the outflow of gas from Russia, and it is working. Besides, how far as Russia gone in almost 4 years? Not much with mentioning. Where has Russia’s Black Sea fleet gone? What about all those Refineries that have shut down? What about about 13 Generals. And all the Russian cities that don’t have lights tonight? Didn’t India and China just stop buying Russian oil? And now Russia is selling Gold Bars because it is broke.
There won’t be a Ukraine - eventually
