Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani are taking questions from reporters inside the Oval Office after a "great meeting" - watch live above
The US president congratulates the New York mayor-elect on his win earlier this month, as the pair say they look forward to working on affordability
The two New Yorkers have been extremely critical of each other in the past, but today Trump says he agrees "a lot more than I would have thought" with the self-described democratic socialist
"He's got views that are little out there," Trump says, but he's confident that the NYC mayor-elect will do a good job

The part that Trump spent the most time talking about was on building new housing and getting energy prices down for NYers.
Didn't particularly care fir the adulation they heaped upon FDR, but, we'll see how far they go with it.
If I hadn’t watched this chit show I wouldn’t have believed it.
What the heck has happened to Trump ?
Well, I am surprised Pres. Trump didn’t kick Mamdani’s ass out onto the street. But, If things work out, (which I doubt) maybe it would be better than status quo Cuomo. We’ll see.
I want to vomit.
So far, Trump’s gas has gone up over 30 cents here over the past week. I read today that that 2/3rds of our Social Security increase will be taken back to pay the increase in our “Medicare”. Doesn’t sound good for the home team.
Is Mamdani really that much worse than sitting down with Kim Jong-Un?
President Trump’s meeting with Mamdani is another example of his brilliance and insight. He knows very well that if he didn’t speak up personally and say the calming things he did, there would be a stampede out of New York City as has never been seen before which would kill the city overnight.
He understands that while Mamdani might have been asking for the meeting to get some “locker room bulletin board quotes” to stir up his base, he (Trump) was not about to give him any.
Moreover, there is a big difference between what Trump implied he might give Mamdani and what actually gets sent up to New York by a Republican Congress.
Very subtle 4 D Chess is what we saw today from a man who loves New York City enough to take the expected attacks from some MAGA members.
Great job Mister President!
His big fault is that he is WAY too nice. But what comes after him will not be.
A conservative outlet put mayor-elect on the spot as well. something about white-based neighborhoods? No idea how he’ll be once in office policy wise, but he is a smoother talker than Obama and does well at pressers. No need for teleprompter.
Trump says he agrees “a lot more than I would have thought”
WTactualF???
Trump played this meeting so good Heaped praise on the guy, govt wants him to succeed, etc. In that way the new mayor will have to stand his own two feet whether he succeeds or fails. No blaming a hostile administration.

If the “Home team’s” only idea of economic progress is yelling at the Fed to lower interest rates, tariffs and/or vague numbers of “investment” from foreigners, we have a ways to go.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.
It’s “The Art of the Deal” playing out in real time.
I am amazed Trump zealots can’t see this!
All I can say is read the book.
Trump was very gracious, of course you have people online saying “Why is Trump being so nice to him” yeah its called being a gracious HOST, what did they want, for Trump to call him an a hole to his face
I think people have forgotten a few things:
1) Trump is a New York Democrat from the ‘90s. That part of him is still there.
2) Mamdani, for all his campaign rhetoric, has already started moderating his tone on things (because the reality of being NYC Mayor is enough to be a 2x4 upside the head on at least SOME matters).
3) Trump is relentlessly complementary of even his opponents if he’s trying to get a deal done, because burning bridges on the outset is a bad opening move.
None of this is shocking.
Exactly. Imamdani is a smooth talker but Trump is a man of action. If Zoltar tries to implement something Trump doesn’t agree with, I trust Trump to stand firm .
