President Donald Trump said late Wednesday that the long-awaited meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani would happen in Washington later this week, setting up an in-person clash between the political polar opposites who for months have antagonized each other from afar.
The sit-down, which Trump said on social media would take place Friday in the Oval Office, could possibly represent a detente of sorts between the Republican president and Democratic rising star, as Trump has since Mamdani’s win moved toward acceptance of Mamdani’s central, winning campaign issue of affordability.

I don’t really see a reason for this meeting. Maybe there is one, but I don’t see it.

I hope President Trump ends the meeting by leading him out of the back door, by the trash cans. That was a favorite 0bama insult.
Hopefully, Trump will underscore that Mamdani is an antisemitic authoritarian.
I agree with some FReepers - it just raises the MI6/globalist fraud Mamdani's status to that of "national politician."
On the other hand, Trump's view of government is quite different from traditional conservatives. It's part practical business meeting, and part imperial visit for Mamdani to come to the head of the state, and for Trump to take the measure of the man in the throne room.
It's also part strategy. He can claim he met the guy and "had a good talk" before he feels the need to publicly smack him down in future
Finally, NY City is Trump's home and his love. He's known every city councilman, commissioner, Mayor and politician for the last 50 years. He can't avoid taking an interest.
Trump still has a soft spot for NYC.

Mamdani has done nothing to warrant a visit to the Oval Office IMO. He is a leftist radical with zero work history or accomplishments who immediately went after Trump in his post-election speech. Why reward someone like that with such a special and rare invitation?
Make clear the ramifications of his actions should they go against US policy and law. No funds for starters.
Trump will be presidential, as always.

Reminds me of that scene on Taxi when Reverend Jim burned down Louie’s (Danny Devito) apartment. Jim’s rich father was going to cover the damage with a check but Louis had to figure out the exact (bloated) amount that would not be too much that he wouldn’t pay.
