President Donald Trump designated Saudi Arabia a major non-NATO ally on Tuesday, opening opportunities for more defense trade and security cooperation between the United States and its key partner in the Middle East.
Trump made the announcement at a dinner for visiting Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, after they held talks that included the signing of a strategic defense agreement
“Tonight, I'm pleased to announce that we're taking our military cooperation to even greater heights by formally designating Saudi Arabia as a major non-NATO ally," Trump said in a speech at the gathering.
Saudi Arabia becomes the 20th major non-NATO ally. The others are Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Morocco, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, South Korea, Thailand and Tunisia.
Major oil producer Saudi Arabia has been a key partner in the Middle East for the United States for years and Trump is hoping the kingdom will step up to bolster his peace plan for Gaza and play a major role in funding the territory’s reconstruction.
Congressional scrutiny of arms sales and foreign policy decisions linked to Saudi Arabia is expected to intensify, as lawmakers face pressure from advocacy organizations to tie future cooperation to the release of political prisoners, greater freedoms for activists and journalists, and accountability for past abuses.

Show us the $$$.
The Saudi are one of the most sane Arab Kingdoms. My question is: Saudi Arabia invests up to one Trillion dollars in the USA, what do they get from the deal?
I don’t trust that Saudi.
Political asylum.
Oh I am sure President Trump is hiding something from us here!
“what do they get from the deal?”
Islam conquers America?
Saudi Arabia is located close enough to Israel to be a key figure in the Israeli/Arab
peace process. The Bush family was close to them, and while that may rub us
wrong, the fact is the Kingdom’s leaders are still inclined to play ball with us.
There are other important nations over there too, and the Saudi connection
is worth persuit.
The Saudis stilll invest in the West/U.S.
Trump has been pretty sharp about moving the Middle-East peace process.
This drives the Left crazy.
Sometimes it’s a matter of “the enemy of my enemy, can serve as my friend in a certain context.” Iran. being our enemy in common.
I understand. In an ideal world, these massive investments would actually make it to average American people and communities…Like infrastructure modernization.
Oil rich Arab countries make American towns appear backwards by comparison at this point!
Defense. When Nixon took us off gold and onto petrodollar it was a bit of a mafia style negotiation, according to people who were there.
“Nice oilfields you have there, it would be a shame if anything happened to them. You don’t have enough people to defend them against Iran. We can offer protection if you only sell oil in dollars.”
we don’t need Saudi oil. So Saudi Arabia investes up to one trillion in the USA. What do they get in the deal?
(this was my 1st question, I still haven’t gotten an answer)
Saudi Arabia has always been am ally. Especially against Iran.
I’ve been watching their speeches and press conferences, and President Trump is doing a masterful job. The Saudi prince is impressive. He pledged a $1 trillion investment in America.
Indeed the meeting is inherently fascinating if only to witness Saudi royalty in all their mythical, Islamic, mafioso pageantry.
But my question is: where is the money going?
And what happens when The House of Saud is overthrown?
Protection from itan mostly
Pakistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are “allies”??!!?
