Scout Motors, an emerging automotive manufacturer, is bringing its headquarters to Charlotte, employing 1,200 workers by 2030.

The headquarters, which will be located in the Commonwealth development in Plaza Midwood, will serve as the central hub for leadership and innovation. The move announced Wednesday represents a capital investment of nearly $207 million.

The Charlotte headquarters will serve as the home base for executive leadership, research and development, finance, IT, sales, marketing and other key corporate functions. The average salary is $172,878, well above the market average.

Is it gas or electric? Doesn’t seem to mention that.

We had an old International Scout II back in the 890’s it was cool. A little under powered with a two-barrel, single exhaust, 345 V-8 but still got us around the in mud.

Engine made by IH for torque. Mostly used in trucks.

I loved our IH Scout. Had a snow plow on it in the winter.

Yes, designed from the ground up as a battery electric vehicle, with up to 350 miles of range. There is supposedly an on-board generator option, though I don't know the specifics on that (official details seem to be scant).

What a missed opportunity. This brand reboot could've been a huge success with the 4x4 TDI powertrain used in the VW Amarok pickup (sold in many places, but not the U.S. and Canada).

Just another failed small electric car company. They don’t look all that different than the Ford Bronco. Of the new electric manufacturers, IMHO, the Slate seems the most promising. I just wish it were an ICE vehicle.

Electric with an optional gas engine to extend range.

It’s a great looking vehicle, plus the company will use the direct-to-consumer sales model that Tesla innovated.

They will also be building a hybrid with a small ICE to charge the battery, extending range.
