The Weimar Fallacy: America Isn’t Germany
Front Page Magazine ^ | November 11, 2025 | Daniel Greenfield

Posted on 11/11/2025 2:40:15 PM PST by E. Pluribus Unum

The rise of a Nazi movement would play out very differently here.

The recent debate around the ‘Groypers’ and antisemitism creeping into the movement has led to lots of Weimar references. And I’m as guilty of that as anyone else. But there’s a big problem with the Weimar rhetoric.

America isn’t Germany.

Germany was a generally conservative country with a similar ethnic population (apart from Jews and Slavs, both of whom the Nazis targeted) and a violent radical left as well as a less violent moderate left. The Nazis had a backdoor arrangement with the Soviet Communists under which both sides stirred up violence in order to delegitimize any moderate alternative and then convinced enough conservatives to let them take over.

Both the Groypers and their allies in the movement, and their opponents, think this is what’s happening here.

They’re missing one big part of the picture. The Left isn’t an insurgency, it’s been the establishment in control of most institutions and levels of government. .

Conservatives aren’t the weak-willed establishment they’re depicted as, but the insurgency trying to maneuver for the most part from outside the system against a system just waiting to crack down on us.

What would happen if the Groypers and their allies got their wish and a bunch of trolls who do Nazis salutes for the cameras became the movement?

We got a little taste of it with Russiagate, Arctic Frost and J6 against a guy whose only offense was being a bit brash. One riot around Congress and the Democrats had militarized D.C. and turned it into a Green Zone for a month.

And much of the public went along with it.

Now imagine the permission structure they would have if the GOP had actual Nazis in it talking about killing off minorities.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is, more and more America is becoming Yugoslavia.

Article number twenty seven (or so) from the left and right attacking Carlson and Fuentes.

Zero defend them.

Nothing to see here.

I am resigned to the fat that the next time the democrats take power, we will lose most of our rights, and war will begin.

They will start by eliminating the filibuster and then pack the Supreme Court.

With this new unlimited power, the bloodbath will begin, literally. Free speech-gone, 2nd Amendment-gone, and then the war will begin....

Meanwhile, in Kentucky, resident gadfly Rand Paul picks this as the most important thing in the world.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, adamantly tried to include a provision that would have left open a loophole allowing the unregulated sale of intoxicating hemp products nationwide.

Your post may be correct.

Meanwhile folks here will be writing lengthy posts about interpretations of the Constitution and what defines a “real” conservative....

Those will probably still be allowed.

Groypers are frauds. They are the equivalent of Howard Stern fans, morons listening to a clown.

The real threat are the anti-Semitic Muslims we've let into this country by the tens of thousands.

One thing to remember that is not pointed out enough… The NAZI were Socialists as were the Marxists. The NAZIs (National Socialist Workers Party) and the Communists in pre war Germany were very much the same… they just picked different minority groups to demonize. These idiots who call themself Socialist today are no damn different than the NAZIs of old.

No, someone tried to massively hinder hemp production in Kentucky. He resisted. Whoever put it in, was doing it to try to hit he and Massie.

Germany did not become a republic until 1919, for one thing, and there were many major political divisions. Additionally, their economy was in shambles.

Germany was having trouble
What a sad, sad story
Needed a new leader to restore
Its former glory

Where, oh, where was he?
Where could that man be?
We looked around and then we found
The man for you and me

a. the American citizens are heavily armed.
b. The military would split and we would have over 1/2 of them on our side.

c. We have the right (duty) to take our country back, if that happened, God forbid.

What kind of idiocy is this supposed to be?

Why does any white supremacy literature exist at all?

We should be far beyond this kind insanity nowadays.

a. the American citizens are heavily armed.

And that includes the left. The question is, who has the will to use them? The left have been showing they are quite willing to be violent. The right remains quiet. What did we do during the shutdown?

b. The military would split and we would have over 1/2 of them on our side.

I wouldn't want to count on that. People who wear uniforms are inclined to follow orders.

c. We have the right (duty) to take our country back, if that happened, God forbid.

I agree.

I tend to agree with you. I'm not an historian but I do know that - as many Freepers often say - although history doesn't repeat it often rhymes. You can certainly pick points of difference between our current situation and the Weimar Republic, but many similarities remain. Enough that we should consider the implications.

I also question the author's powers of observation when he says, "America is not Weimar Germany. It's not in a state of social chaos..."
