The white collar workers in Brooklyn who elected Zohran Mamdani are experiencing the economic displacement felt by blue collar workers in the Rust Belt three decades ago. They are the natural next chapter of the Make America Great Again coalition.

Their populist momentum will go in a different direction than MAGA.

Most of these professionals work in industries where the digital age has made it very easy to pack up and move away from these big cities. COVID gave them the opportunity and the excuse to do exactly that. Some of us took advantage of it.

I have worked with many of these “Brooklyn professionals” over the years. I generally found them to be some of the most delusional, ignorant and entitled people I’ve ever known.

I kinda disagree with this premise. Those who voted for Mamdani aught to get what they voted for good and hard.

There was a sharp contrast between the voting record of the gentrified areas of Brooklyn vs. the wealthy areas of the Upper East Side, the affluent and largely Jewish Riverdale area, and the areas of the Lower West Side adjacent to the Financial District. While the former had strong support for Mandami, the longer established district showed string support for Cuomo. None of the latter areas are remotely conservative, they supported the more predictable legacy politician to the radical upstart.

The BIG SURPRISE of communism is that (if you fall for their crap) life can get a whole lot worse. Picture living in a country where hundreds of millions of your fellow citizens starve to death...

Check out the histories of China, the USSR, North Korea etc. And the 'protests' and standing up for "YOUR RIGHTS"? As soon as commies are in charge the pity parties and outrage are NOT allowed.

They'll figgin kill you for the same stuff they encouraged the year before they took over. People better wake up to the horror of what the new 'normal' would look like. BIG> Here's a hint: in all commie hellholes, walls are built to keep citizen from escaping. Yeah, think about that one for a second.

In Florida it was normal to find dead bodies of Cubans washing up on shore - the ones who tried to escape and didn't make it. Same in Germany between East and West Germany - dead bodies of those trying to escape - and being shot in the process.

100% true. Charlie Kirk in his last interview with Tucker Carlson about a month before he was murdered talked about this....about how we have to make homes affordable and of course, crack down hard on H1B’s and outsourcing. Those under 40 especially are looking for solutions to exactly the kinds of problems described here and if MAGA does not provide solutions, they WILL turn to socialists. We have a limited window of time to show them populism and economic nationalism can deliver for them.

Here in Charlotte, house prices literally doubled since Covid. Its insane. Wages haven’t increased much. Groceries are far more expensive...probably about twice what we paid 5 years ago and many people are priced out of buying a house now. The latter isn’t a problem if you’ve already got yours. Its a huge problem if you don’t.

” We have a limited window of time to show them populism and economic nationalism can deliver for them.”

That is why we can’t play filibuster games in the Senate any more.

It is a luxury we cannot afford.

cost shifting

Mr. Yuppie - $4,000/month
Mrs. White - $800/month
Mrs. Black - $900/month
Miss Alt - $700/month

Very similar thing is going on via the PPACA and college.

“about how we have to make homes affordable”

Mr. & Mrs. Affluent pay $780,000 for a 2,000 square foot house.

They are going to resent Mr. & Mrs. Waitstaff getting a 1,600 square foot house for $170,000.

In fact, they might stop paying on their mortgage.

If an area is unaffordable, find another area.

What about Mr. & Mrs. Teacher?

Pay them 40 years for 40 years’ work at a higher annual rate than 70 years of pay for 40 years of work.

You need to pop the real estate bubbles by closing off their airspace below 5,000 feet, in NYC’s case, to two counties out (Nassau & Suffolk, Westchester & Fairfield & Putnam, etc.)

Most states could create new capital cities every ten years. These would be quality cities with amenities, and affordable housing.

Can’t afford a home can’t afford an apartment? Add 40 million people from over the border to the housing market and let’s see how that works out?

4-unit NYC building

Mr. Yuppie - $4,000/month
Mrs. White - $800/month
Mrs. Black - $900/month
Miss Alt - $700/month

What might happen if Mr. Yuppie and others like him could get $1,600/month apartments?

If you want to form a family, you don’t simply stay in a high-cost zip code where you can’t afford it.

That said, the GOP has handed the younger generations to the socialist Dems on a silver platter. They’ve had the House, Senate, USSC and Executive branch for almost a year without doing squat except ship more money overseas.

Mr. & Mrs. Affluent might be Asian Indian or Chinese.

They’ll bolt far more readily than old stock Americans.

Enjoy paying on the $40 trillion + ~$500,000 write down!

Bye!
