Twenty Years On, Darfur Tips Into Chaos Again {Real genocide. Where are the campus protesters?}

Since the city of El Fasher in Sudan fell last weekend to a paramilitary force, images and witness accounts have pointed to an unfolding massacre.

Residents were shot as they fled the city through fields. hundreds were killed in a day in the city’s last hospital. Videos show victims being casually executed.

the fighters rampaging across Darfur, a region in western Sudan, are better armed, organized and funded than ever.

Before, they rode mainly on horses and camels; now, they have armored vehicles and pickups. Before, they torched villages; now, they fire heavy artillery, fly sophisticated drones and have the backing of one of the wealthiest countries in the wider region, the United Arab Emirates.

Last year, Zamzam became the center of a famine that has since spread across the country. In April, R.S.F. fighters stormed through the camp, clearing it out and killing hundreds of people in the process, including the entire staff of the camp’s medical clinic.

few officials have been willing to openly criticize the Emirati role in stoking the conflict, said Michelle D. Gavin, a senior fellow for Africa Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.

“There has been a complete unwillingness to publicly acknowledge the facts on the ground — that the U.A.E. is arming and supporting a genocidal force,” she said.

In September, the Emirates signed a declaration, negotiated by Mr. Boulos, that called on foreign powers to stop funding the conflict. On the ground, though, it appeared to have little effect, Ms. Gavin added.

“Everybody knew what would happen when El Fasher fell — that in addition to the horrors of a starvation siege, the R.S.F. would massacre people,” she said. “Yet, that didn’t seem to prompt any change in Emirati behavior.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.

This is real genocide, civilians specifically targeted, with the aim of wiping out all the non Arabs. Btw racially and looks wise, the "Arzbs" are blacks, with some Arab blood, but look like different from the people they are exterminating.

And both sides are Sunni Muslims.

But where are the protests against genocide?????

Where are the Black lives matter folk when blacks are specifically targeted for slaughter?

Crickets...

The reality is that most of western intelligentsia (academia, the “establishment”, etc.) have differing behavior standards for “white” and/or “western” countries/groups and non-white/non-western countries groups.

Israel, as a developed, modern country is held to a much higher standard of behavior (in some cases an impossible to meet standard) compared to its Muslim/Arab neighbors. The U.S. was criticized for every mistake in Iraq and Afghanistan, even when it admitted fault and investigated civilian casualties.

The only times I can think of where non-western atrocities gained the same level of concern or criticism were Cambodia during the “killing Fields” of the 1970s or Rwanda in the 1990s. Which were cases where the violence and killing (infintely worse than anything going on today) were so systematic, widespread, and horrific that they could not be ignored.

Bigotry take many forms. But the quiet assumption by many in the West that violence and killing are less important if done by non-western, non-white actors continues to anger me.

Where are the folks in my tagline who claim to be all concerned about the deaths of innocents, but only manage to roust themselves when a Jew is plausibly blame-able?
