Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson argued that the phrase “illegal alien” strips away the humanity of the person in question.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson issued a scathing rebuke of dehumanizing language at a news conference Friday after a question he was asked about the city’s spending on “illegal aliens.” Though Johnson was less than sincere when he suggested that “illegal aliens” are something you’d expect to find in a work of science fiction, he was correct to argue that such phrasing erases the humanity of the people in question.
“We don’t have illegal aliens,” he said, before making the science-fiction remark. “The legal term for my people were slaves. You want me to use that term, too? So, look, let’s just get the language right. We are talking about undocumented individuals that are human beings. The last thing I’m going to do is accept that type of racist, nasty language to describe human beings.”
To Johnson’s point about Africans brought against their will to the New World, it was only fairly recently that there was a concerted effort to refer to them not by the noun “slave,” but by the adjective “enslaved.” To say, for example, that slaves were imported from Africa, is to say “slaves” is all they were and had ever been. To say that they were “enslaved” is to describe what happened to them without reducing them to that condition.
We’ve seen a similar push to describe people not as “prisoners,” but as “incarcerated” and, in the current matter, a push to say that even if laws have been violated, that doesn’t make “illegal” the right adjective to describe the people who violated them.
In 2013, The Associated Press, which publishes a stylebook that most mainstream news organizations use, thought better of its previous guidance...

 Fixed it.

Because its no fun being an illegal alien . . . .
“Scathing rebuke”. No, what he did was show himself to be the lawless radical he is. He is what you get when you refuse to vote for the other guy, who was obviously more qualified, just because he’s white. Enjoy the suck, Chicago.
Democrats are clueless when it comes to political correctness. People are tired of it. They used to put up with it just to be polite, but it has gotten so annoying that there is open hostility to the stupidity of renaming things just to make it sound less offensive to somebody.
It’s yielding the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do....................
So instead, you just erase the humanity of the people who pay for all this.
I would probably give $10k to argue with that moron on live television for 30 minutes….
Oh. Right. Because he's a demonicRAT.
ALL of these politicians are on the take from the cartels.
How are blocks of major cities ‘under the control of’ cartels?
PAYOLA.
Follow the money. Arrest those involve en masse.
The tax base is escaping Hellinois but they are escaping Chiraq even faster.
That assumes that LEO’s and prosecutors are clean.
alien:
Owing political allegiance to another country or government;
Belonging to, characteristic of, or constituting another and very different place, society or person; strange
illegal:
Not legal
Illegal aliens are exactly who they are.
Yes, in these major cities sure there are many rocks to look under.
“The legal term for my people were slaves. You want me to use that term, too?”
I am so tired of willful and deliberate ignorance.
Is Johnson retarded?
To some extent. The reality is that controlling the language has given progressives the greatest amount of power they've ever experienced.
Look at how much power they've gained in the last century since they took over the word "liberal"; but also when they took of the word "monopoly", that was so extremely powerful for them as well. They've taken over the word "democracy" so successfully and completely that if you look in modern dictionaries there isn't any way anymore to even categorize the U.S. as a republic - the subversion is so ultimately complete and thorough on this one.
Controlling the dictionary is an important way of how progressives can then exert control over the United States. It's an effort at normalization.
Mayor Johnson correctly understands that people are utterly terrified to discuss slavery, partly because of k-12school and university indoctrination. So by calling out to slavery and putting it in the seat next to illegal aliens, he wants to shut people down and let the dictionary do his heavy lifting on his behalf.
“Is Johnson retarded?”
Like most Democrats, yes.

If anything is a work of science fiction it’s him a walking human with no brain only mass.

“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.”
― George Orwell, 1984
Characterizing someone by his behavior is not stripping away his humanity. It’s not as if the reporter characterized them as leeches or parasites.
