Increasingly Authoritarian Zelensky Prepares for Future Elections by Targeting Rivals – After Ousting Odessa Head, Now He Sets His Sights on Kiev Mayor and Former Boxer Klitschko: REPORT

The authoritarian behavior of Volodymyr Zelensky has become impossible to ignore.

An article written by Pavel Lokshin for the German newspaper WELT sharply criticizes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his increasingly authoritarian tendencies.

The report shows how the man lionized by the MSM as ‘a second Churchill’ is in fact consolidating his power through the suppression of political opponents.

Welt reported (translated from the German):

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is consolidating his power. Anyone who stands in his way must give way – most recently the freely elected mayor of the city of Odessa. Zelensky is thus sending a clear signal to other opponents.”

The article comments on the recent dismissal of the elected mayor the of the important Black Sea port of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov.

Zelensky accused him of ‘having a Russian passport’, and the move is seen as a prime example of this authoritarian pattern, just a naked intimidation tactic aimed at silencing dissent.

“Zelenskyy’s decision to remove the mayor, who was democratically elected, underscores a troubling trend: the prioritization of loyalty over electoral legitimacy.

In a time of war, such moves may be justified by some as necessary for unity, but they erode the foundations of the democracy Ukraine is fighting to preserve.”

All these actions reflect a broader erosion of democratic norms in Ukraine amid wartime pressures.

Zelenskyy’s behavior in fact risks undermining the very principles the country claims to defend.

“Critics within Ukraine and abroad have long warned of this slide toward authoritarianism, yet international support continues unabated. Zelenskyy’s charisma masks a regime increasingly intolerant of opposition, raising questions about the long-term stability of post-war governance.”

The next target of Zelensky’s heavy-handed tactics is the mayor of the capital, Kiev.

“The power struggle between the President of Ukraine and the autocratic mayor Vitali Klitschko, in particular, is raging in the capital Kiev. The latter openly speaks of the ‘stench of authoritarianism’ that is felt in the country.”

This is silly. There won’t be domestic politics for many years. An installed Russian puppet will promise elections and that promise will not be fulfilled until many years pass.

So no, it’s no big deal about Zelensky doing anything internally. None of that is going to matter.

The only thing that will stop Russia is theatre nuclear weapons. If they are deployed, the game changes. Alternatively, the only thing that will stop NATO is Russian victory in Ukraine.

Politics and elections will do nothing. Ignore them.

When he shut down the press and the TV, ya’d t’ink d’at d’ey would see him for what he is? Another tin horn dictator!?

Now here we are again, supporting another Calsciescu!

“Oh well, Smith, can you not see that thru him, we are making Putin use all of his armory?”

Yeah, for what?
This is not Cold War stuff. This is, and has been, the same old argument between Russia and the Ukraine, since t
Peter the Great.

Unshackle ourselves, now.

And hasn’t Zelensky also closed all media not loyal to him. In other words the remaining media is his propaganda tool. And any one considered as political opposition had to escape from Ukraine or imprisoned.

Russian oil companies starting to report last quarter’s earnings (down 30-50% year over year), and the Moscow Stock Exchange index has tanked 10% in the last week.

The crisis is arriving.

In Germany, if you oppose The Ruling Class, and you gain any popularity, you risk the same fate. Many German AdF leaders have reached room temperature, taken their long dirt nap. Whether it is polonium or “they died suddenly” or “he fell out of a window” (gravity is such a b”””ch) - or just simply disappeared, tyrants will tyrant.

Rush used to say that one of the methods that could be used against adversaries is to export liberalism. Germany is actually celebrating the destruction of their electrical grid (going green). They voluntarily turned off a significant portion of their power generation (nuclear). At the same time, France is promising to build more nuclear energy plants.

Reminds me of Maduro ... bus driver turned dictator

Is Zelensky now going to become a dictator?

We and NATO fomented an illegal coup in 2014 that setoff a civil war that led to the present war and installed a government hostile to Moscow that endangered Russia's military base in Crimea.

It was grotesque act of provocation against one of military and nuclear superpowers in the world and pushed Russia into a dangerous alliance with China, which is a grave threat to our national security. We're closer to WW III and nuclear war because of that than we ever were during the Cold War.

If Russia or China had done anything similar in Mexico, we would invade.

Neocon, Zeeper war pigs like your are a cancer to the country and danger to everyone in it.

In a time of war, such moves may be justified by some as necessary for unity, but they erode the foundations of the democracy Ukraine is fighting to preserve.”

I'm all for democracy, but sometimes, unity and security are more important.

Kiev is the Ukrainian capital, with a mayor that Zelensky disapproves of.

Here in the U.S., NYC is the economic and cultural capital of the country, and we're about to get a foreigner with allegiance to his Muslim religion more than anything else. If he could, Trump would "fire' him. Would Trump be wrong if he did fire Mamdani?

Authoritarian refers to someone holding power against the will of the people. Zelensky was elected, by a huge majority of Ukrainians. When the election is held, which has to be after the war, Ukrainians can fire him. would that be possible under an authoritarian dictator?

Trump is also accused of becoming more and more authoritarian the longer he's president, so, are the accusers correct in labeling him as authoritarian?

Such labels are mostly used by those who disagree with what a particular official is doing in some instances, but, in the overall, is that true?
