3:20 President Donald Trump announced Saturday that the United States will impose an additional 10 percent tariff on Canadian imports, saying Canada aired a deceptive advertisement using altered audio and video of former President Ronald Reagan to undermine his administration’s tariff policy.
President Donald Trump charged that Canada was “caught, red handed” using manipulated clips of Ronald Reagan in an anti-tariff advertisement broadcast during the World Series. The advertisement, produced by the government of Ontario, featured Reagan appearing to denounce tariffs, prompting an immediate response from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.
In his Truth Social post, Trump cited a statement from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute that said that Canada had “created an ad campaign using selective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan,” and that the material “misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address.” The foundation added that Canada “did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks” and was “reviewing its legal options.”
Trump asserted, “The sole purpose of this FRAUD was Canada’s hope that the United States Supreme Court will come to their ‘rescue’ on Tariffs that they have used for years to hurt the United States.” He continued, “Now the United States is able to defend itself against high and overbearing Canadian Tariffs (and those from the rest of the World as well!). Ronald Reagan LOVED Tariffs for purposes of National Security and the Economy, but Canada said he didn’t!”
The ad’s broadcast comes one day after Trump ended trade talks with Canada, as Breitbart News previously reported. The president halted negotiations following the initial discovery of the ad, writing that “ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”

LA just tied the Series at 1 game apiece.
I was a huge baseball fan for many years. Majors and minors, I went to every game I could. I started falling asleep by the third inning with batters taking 5 minutes to get ready to swing. Pitchers taking two more minutes to throw a ball.
Then MLB told us that we must respect LGBT or don’t watch. So I didn’t.
I miss baseball. And NASCAR. And NFL. All those sports told us not to watch if we weren’t all in on gay pride. What a mess.
I hope they both lose.
They’ve showed that Reagan commercial at both games so far and the bungholes will keep showing it. I’d still like to know how Canada PM thinks he’s going to fend off the Ruskies and CCP when they come in to take over. If all the leftists think they’re going to flee across our border they can forget it.
Alberta should join the US. The rest can fend for themselves.
So what was the alleged inaccuracy in the ad? My recollection of the Reagan years is that, yeah, he favored free markets, including internationally (therefore very low tariffs).
As much as Trump razzes and makes jokes about The 51st State, I don’t see what he’s complaining and/or retaliating about. The Canadians expect their leaders to provide occasional push back and Fact Checking on foreign leaders just like we do.
Teams that paid tribute to CHARLIE KIRK
NFL franchises, including the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, and Arizona Cardinals all held moments of silence or special recognitions...
In baseball, the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees paid tribute...
I’ll go with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. They said it’s a fake. Trump was citing them in case you have an axe to grind against him.
Reagan was talking about free trade. They tariff us isn’t free trade.
Canada has really pissed him off.
The Canadian ad is not an A.I. fake.
The only thing missing is that it is not the entire speech Reagan made at that time.
In other parts of the speech Reagan was talking about his justification for why he was putting tariffs on Japanese products. And that justification was what he considered wrongful trade actions by Japan. And he said he hoped the tariffs would bring Japan around to negotiating fairer trade with the U.S.
I agreed with Reagan.
However, a lot has happened since 1987, and the situation today is not the situation of 1987.
I the Canadian ad a lie? No.
It’s just not the whole story.
“I’d still like to know how Canada PM thinks he’s going to fend off the Ruskies and CCP when they come in to take over.”
The ad was not placed by the national government of Canada.
It was placed by the leader of the province of Ontario. Ontario is the province with more export oriented industry than any other in Canada.
No; Reagan was talking about putting tariffs on Japanese semiconductors and how he was trying to knock some sense into Japan for breaching trade agreements and thus rejecting free trade per se.
Canada does not believe in free trade, obviously, since they will not reduce their extant tariffs from before Trump got in again.
Now tariffs are for hissy fits? The cornerstone of sound economic policy.
wtf were the Canucks thinking... lol
So how did Ontario get permission from the federal government in Ottawa to air that commerical?
Do we know that they did get permission?
All I was commenting on was how they took Reagan completely out of context, anyhow.
“So how did Ontario get permission from the federal government in Ottawa to air that commerical?”

Why would anyone need government permission to produce and run a commercial? That’s not freedom.
