Context: Innovative AI tools may bring unprecedented health and prosperity. However, alongside tools, many leading AI companies have the stated goal of building superintelligence in the coming decade that can significantly outperform all humans on essentially all cognitive tasks. This has raised concerns, ranging from human economic obsolescence and disempowerment, losses of freedom, civil liberties, dignity, and control, to national security risks and even potential human extinction. The succinct statement below aims to create common knowledge of the growing number of experts and public figures who oppose a rush to superintelligence.
We call for a prohibition on the development of superintelligence, not lifted before there is
1. broad scientific consensus that it will be done safely and controllably, and 2. strong public buy-in.

Some say...it is too late.
Money to be made.
Can’t stop it.
How bou5 we make it sound not so... ai? Ai videos are the worst. Sadly everyone is turning to ai to create and narrate their videos, now
As we proceed, there should be a set of rules and government enforcement, i.e. to ensure privacy rights, free speech, movement by the people, basic civil rights are not infringed upon.
But since government abdicated that role a long time ago (corporate America and government are the biggest culprits in violation of privacy rights - the digital world operates on a different set of rules than the physical world) and the rules allow gross violations, you can’t count on them for anything.
I don’t think it’s too late...yet. But we are certainly late pushing back on what our supposed overlords want to do to us!
I contend that AI is the anti-christ, that it will usher in the elites as the Gods of the earth, with enslavement of all people, unless they decide to just eliminate the unneeded people.
But it can still be regulated, or at least it should be attempted. But the genie is out of the bottle, and returning it to the bottle is most definitaely not a possibility.
Regulate Chinas use if it?
They can do all the “cognizing” they want, but if AI computers don’t have the data or they are unproven, conjectural or bogus, sooper-dooper-AI will be capable of defending the indefensible. They can’t get out and find out at the ends of their own arms.
Ergo, a U.S. or Western slowdown would not create safety parity—it would cede strategic advantage to an authoritarian regime that won’t self-limit.
Well I guess that solves the problem. Let’s just prohibit it. Done!! Let’s also prohibit murder, greed, stealing and telling lies. This is simple!! And greed. OK on to the next problem.
Yes...That is one of THE major problems.
The problem is how do we apply this to China, Russia, or North Korea?
People should be compelled to read and understand Asimov.
And know how to make thermite.
Just sayin’
The winner of the AI battle will rule the world—or destroy it.
AI is the ultimate national security issue.
Asimov’s ethical model presumes shared values, the real world divides into moral ecosystems. Western AI is (mostly) aligned with human rights; Chinese AI is aligned with state power.
The fact that Harry and Megain sign a statement on “super intelligence” 🙄 I don’t know why they are qualified to make statements.
Can we just get a little SuperWisdom?
When ChatGPT was introduced in 2022, it took only 2 months for it to achieve 100 MILLION users. I’d say this guy is a little late to the party.
