Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., told "Hannity" Wednesday he’s willing to "pay a price" to help reopen the government, even if it means breaking with his party, as the shutdown stretches into its fourth week.
"I am always going to vote country over my party and if I pay a price within my base, that's something I am willing to do," Fetterman said.
Fetterman has been outspoken in his criticism of the shutdown, vocalizing his priorities to fund the military and Capitol Police over party politics. He noted that he's one of only two Democrats voting to keep the government open.
"I'm not afraid to tell my truth and if I'm going to pay a penalty, I'm not afraid of that," Fetterman told host Sean Hannity. "It's wrong to shut our government down."
This comes after Fetterman labeled the 22-day-long shutdown a "failure" in a post to X Wednesday.
Looming cuts to critical government programs have struck a chord with the Pennsylvania Democrat.
"I refuse to vote to suspend SNAP for millions of Pennsylvanians in my state and across the entire nation," he insisted.

I'd like to see him vote with the Republicans for a change. This is his big chance to prove he's not just a sweet-talking democrat drone.

Fetterman has voted with the White House 26.6% of the time, as of mid-September. The only Democratic Senator to have aligned more is Jeanne Shaheen at 28.3%.

Either he’s a great actor, or the stroke made some common sense connections in his brain - who’d have thought he’d be one of the saner dems?

When I first read your comment I thought you were wrong, because dead democrats are not evil. I must correct myself, because dead democrats are just as evil as live ones because they still vote.
His right actions should be noted and encouraged, but don’t be fooled by a chameleon seeking to remain in power.
He meant to say he will support the country over his “losing” party.

Fetterman appears to have made a near-complete recovery from his stroke. I am genuinely happy for him.
Fetterman is a historical democrat. I wouldn’t vote for him because of his views on abortion, but I do respect him for his other common sense opinions.
