Curtis Sliwa has a point: Voters want conviction — and it’s shaping every race across the country
New York Post ^ | October 21, 2025 | Isaac Schorr

Pressure is building on Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa to drop his long-shot quest for Gracie Mansion...

But the Guardian Angels founder stubbornly insists he has no intention of doing so.

And although he’s terribly, even disastrously wrong about the wisdom of carrying on his quixotic campaign, Sliwa’s diagnosis of Cuomo’s maladies is spot-on...

“Andrew Cuomo failed everybody in that [Democratic] primary. He even admitted it,” replied Sliwa.

“Now he’s basically saying, ‘I can’t win without Sliwa votes.’ Where are your votes?”

Where indeed.

Despite Cuomo’s universal name recognition and reputation as the kind of human bulldozer who might find success in City Hall, Mamdani soundly defeated the supposed Democratic savior in June.

Why? Because voters had already sniffed out his lack of conviction...

While Cuomo has pinned his June loss on his admittedly bumbling, social media-poor primary strategy, the more glaring reason for it was his lack of purpose.

Candidates need a raison d’être to win, and Cuomo didn’t have one — aside from the need to feed his own ego...

In the Donald Trump era, authenticity and clarity of vision rule the day.

Trump has steamrolled his way into the White House — twice — by running unconventional campaigns that resonated with voters because they reflected the indomitable personality and unique views of its principal.

Proud socialist and USSR honeymooner Bernie Sanders took two Democratic nomination fights down to the wire — at a time when the label was still toxic.

And his spiritual successor, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, could well play the role of Reagan to his Goldwater in 2028.

All three have built endlessly loyal followings because they boast the courage of their convictions, and appear to be fighting for something more than themselves.

I want conviction of Comey, Bolton, Brennan, Hillary, Latitia and many others.

Conviction, not glossing over their crimes again.

The answer to debt-fed NY socialists choosing a marxist over the other corrupt “mainstream” Democrat who has already embarrassed himself in Democrat, one-party NY State - is for the Republican to drop out

How does that even make sense?

He’s not gonna win.

But in general? Sure. I admire principle. I admire consistency.

Really doesn’t matter (much) to me. I do travel to NYC a fair bit on business and NYC is one of the great cities of the world. I still love it - and much as people like not to hear it? No red diaper doper baby *can* ruin it. Many have tried - Da’blabio mostly recently - and... they can’t.

If I lived there? I’d probably vote for Sliwa. Not because he’s an (R) because at least he stands on principle.

Mommygimme *also* stands on principle, I guess - but it’s the WRONG principle. And just like Da’blabio? He’ll learn it’s lot easier to promise giveaways than to actually make it work.

No way I’d vote for the professional nepo baby sleazebag grifter.

Sucks to be a New Yorker.... you’ve got 3 bad choices. But - the guy likely to finish a distant 3rd probably *is* the best choice.

Seems like the more you crowd people together the crazier they get.

Why is NY so unaffordable in the first place? Who’s been running that city?

Hold on Curtis Sliwa, you’re fighting the good fight.

You’re the only decent candidate in the race, it would be ridiculous for you to succumb to evil pressure to drop out.

I like Curtis Sliwa and don’t give a damn about conventional whiz-dumb. I wish Cuomo would drop out and give New Yorkers a clear choice.

Bloated payrolls, bloated welfare and other spending, massive regulations/fees, refusal to lower energy costs by fracking. Big Government.

Sliwa will be a great Mayor for NYC, but his campaign strategy is flawed.

He’s training most of his attacks on Cuomo, very few of his attacks are against the most dangerous candidate — Mamdani.

He’s campaigning in the same manner he did 4 years ago when he got beaten badly by Eric Adams. No radio ads ( haven’t heard any ), very few billboards, virtually no social media presence. The result is the same as 2021.

Trump also has decades of proven CEO experience.

Because despite a long-standing tradition - and it goes back more than a century - of residents wanting mommy/daddy government to “fix it”, capitalism is hard to beat.

The food can’t be beat - and I don’t care if you want cheap or expensive. And despite the fact I like to mock their pizza as greasy cardboard, it’s true up and down the price line. Gets more expensive up the line you go, but boy have I had some memorable meals there, of all kinds.

The entertainment/culture is just overwhelming. I’ve been to the symphony, to operas, to Broadway — but also dive bars to see punk bands BITD, blues, jazz, etc. Any given night, you have great options for whatever floats your boat. You can’t get that anywhere else - even in other big cities.

Despite leftist dreams of utopia? Capitalism makes that happen. Capitalism creates a place where millions and millions of people pay the price to get not just a great meal, but a meal you’ve never had before. Capitalism powers those cultural and entertainment options.

It always amuses me to visit - knowing the Mommygimme’s make up a plurality of the residents and always have - and just rolling my eyes at them.

I keep waiting for the day they realize a vibrant, worldwide center of capitalism is just not the place for them... go start a commune in Vermont or California. But - nearly 40 years in now to being an adult? They never do.

Whatever. They’re probably going to elect Mommygimme. And it will be suboptimal. And they’ll just do what they’ve done since well before Da’Blabio. Claim he just wasn’t pure enough. And the great engine will power on. Like it has always done. Into its 3rd century.

It makes sense for Sliwa to focus his attacks on Cuomo. Sliwa and Cuomo are both competing for the anti-Mamdani vote.

The assumption is that Mamdani voters love Mamdani. Sliwa can't convert them. But Cuomo voters don't like Cuomo. They can be persuaded to defect to Sliwa.

The latest poll I saw shows Sliwa rising, Cuomo falling, and Mamdani holding steady.

Sliwa .... 19%

Cuomo .... 28%

Mamdani .... 43%

That doesn’t surprise me.

Like I said - I’m just a frequent visitor, so my opinion means nothing.

But for the life of me? I don’t know why a Sliwa (or whomever) doesn’t just pound the table: I’m not running for POTUS. I’m not running for the federal or even state government. I’m running to be mayor of YOUR city!

My focus is on crime, on livability, and infrastructure. That’s it. My opinion on *ANYTHING* else doesn’t matter - and it SHOULDN’T.

Clean and safe streets. Clean and safe subways. Easing regulations so that the things all new yorkers love can only grow and multiply. That’s it. That’s why I’m running and that’s what I’ll do. The rest is just pointless virtue-signaling nonsense.

Isn’t Sliwa slightly crazy?

No more than Trump.

They are both typical New Yorkers, in ways that seem crazy to outsiders: bombastic, braggarts, eccentric, egotistical, tough-talking, pushy and ambitious.
