The US is up to something in Venezuela. But what exactly?
Since early September, the US military has carried out at least five lethal strikes on civilian boats in the Caribbean, alleged by the Trump administration to be piloted by members of Venezuelan drug cartels that the US government has designated as terrorist organizations. Twenty-seven people have been reported killed in these strikes. President Donald Trump has informed Congress that he has determined the US is now in a state of armed conflict with these cartels.
The strikes come in the context of a large-scale buildup of US forces in the Caribbean, including some 10,000 troops, guided-missile destroyers, F-35 fighter jets, MQ-9 reaper drones, and a secretive vessel designed to carry special operations forces. This is more firepower than the US committed to the Battle of Midway during World War II. According to the Washington Post, special operations helicopters have flown less than 90 miles from the Venezuelan coast in recent days.
This week, the New York Times reported that President Trump has authorized covert CIA operations inside Venezuela. On Wednesday, Trump acknowledged the report — making these operations not exactly “covert” anymore — and confirmed that he is considering striking targets on land in the country. On Friday, it was reported that in the most recent boat strike, there were survivors for the first time. They were taken into custody, making them the first prisoners of war of this latest conflict. Also this week, Adm. Alvin Holsey, the head of US Southern Command, who was overseeing the buildup, stepped down from his position less than a year into his tenure. The reasons are unclear, but....

Something is up. Marines birthday celebration yesterday when really it Nov. 10th. That dirtbag could be going down.
Who knows. Madura has 50M on his head.
I could use the money. But I’m old.
I hope the B52’s have cruise missiles. I cannot imagine dropping a load of traditional bombs on South America.
Next we can start droning the Cartels in Mexico.
My guess would containment and increased pressure for the foreseeable future.
I was puzzled when 47 mentioned the Venezuelan opposition leader (?) Machado again on Friday. She is the one that dedicacted her nobel prize to 47 last week.
On Friday he sort of dismissed her and said he “didn’t know who she was”. 5-D? Or just not well informed?
President Trump is not “attacking Venezuela” any more than he is “attacking” Memphis, DC, Portland or Chicago.
South and Central American governments need to stop drug cartels from harming US citizens, or we will - even if it means sending troops in.
If their governments are legitimate, they will welcome our forces - if not, the people will welcome our forces.
If we are at War, let us fight it as a war.
Southern Command “leader”?
Admiral Holsey, of course no relation of “Bull” Halsey, has quit.
Don’t even think about thanking him for his Service!
The Cartels’ body count is in the millions.
Let’s not fret about 27 drug runners.
If Chanel Rion’s theory is correct, this is all about disrupting China’s supply of oil from Venezuela.
Sounds good to me. Get er done.
I think that is called a twofer.
It’s been so long now I don’t recall - did MSN.com get their panties in a wad when Obama was dropping hellfires on ragheads?
I don’t know. Let’s ask a Pentagon reporter.
Pretty hard to have a proxy war when we continue to trade with communist china. If China was a huge problem, the natural course would be to stop trade with them and/or restrict our companies doing business with them. As of now, we have no intention of doing that. We have continued to reward woke multinational corporations with tax breaks, and such companies seek to continue moving operations to communist china.
If Trump were king, MSNBC would be so 8 years ago.
Who writes this dribble?
The US committed three carrier battle groups to Midway including 233 carrier borne planes and 127 land based planes.
Venezuelan military would fold like a cheap suit. Our interests there are China’s influence. Drugs are secondary-an excuse. We got Argentina, El Salvador and maybe Peru catchin’ on.
Don’t forget the illegals we can dump on them, including more than a few non-Venezuelans.
A parasite nation that night and day wages war against us through illegal immigration and poisoning Americans with fentynal.
no
One word: Noreiga. Arresting Maduro would send shockwaves through the drug cartels.
