No Kings, No Grassroots, No Introspection
American Thinker ^ | October 19, 2025 | John F. Di Leo

On October 18, the un-American left held countless demonstrations across the country (allegedly about 2,500 of them), ranging from harmless picket lines to riotous violence.

The theme? “No Kings” — a declaration that America doesn’t believe in autocrats, and that here in America, politicians are not above the law.

It’s a theme as old as civilization. Some 2,500 years ago, during the days of Etruscan rule in ancient Rome, the infamous Rape of Lucretia so infuriated the people of Rome that they declared an end to the rule of kings, once and for all, driving the Tarquin family out of the city and establishing a republic on the spot.

From the overthrow of Tarquin the Proud in 509 B.C., then, the war cry of “No Kings!” has enjoyed a long and respectable pedigree as the fundamental “republican” (small r) war cry.

It’s short and sweet; it fits nicely on a picket sign — and in English, at least, chants come easy, since so many words rhyme with “kings.” But how much real meaning is there beneath the chants?

In theory, the cry of “No Kings!” indicates a refusal to tolerate dictatorship. But how long did that really last, historically speaking? When that cabal of homicidal Roman senators assassinated Julius Caesar in 44 B.C., their justification was, famously, that “He was trying to be king!”

But as students of antiquity all know, the Roman republic had ceased to be truly republican over a century earlier, and even before that, it was a form of government that we today would hardly recognize as elective in any form. The Roman Senate frequently appointed dictators for short terms, and by the late 2nd century B.C., Roman generals realized that they could just appoint themselves dictator, without the Senate’s blessing, for as long as they...

From the people who pushed their candidate without a single primary vote.

I haven’t seen any reports of “riotous violence.” Most reports I’ve seen report crowds weighted towards older people who went about their business in a manner consistent with their age, i.e., there wasn’t a whole lot of energy, just rote performance. .

“No queens“ would be appropriate for gatherings like these. Plenty of weirdos attending.

I can sympathize with the anxiety and bewilderment of these demonstrators. It is mentally stressful to read the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Reading the Federalist Papers, James Madison’s notes to the Constitutional Convention, and Leonard W. Levy’s Origins of the Bill of Rights would be sure to send untold thousands to urgent care facilities. I have probably shortened my life by a decade by repeatedly indulging in these activities.

Astroturf is what this is called- a created, funded desperate fake demonstration... financed by Communistst/Globalist “investors” in destruction of our Republic.

Performed as you say, people who are the dregs of the Demonrat party who interpreted the separation of the USA from the British Empire as needing preservation of the British created and funded human bondage industry (indentured servitude and slavery) driven by the then economic needs to preserve an economy driven by it. In a few short years the need for the labor would be driven down and away. Ironic that these “Our Democracy” types are really rallying to preserve their government control of “their Kleptocracy”. All of them riding in the wagon— pulled by illegal aliens who support the base of the Ponzi pyramid of the Nanny State.

Coffee rant over. BTW great post—”not a single primary vote” Kamala, and a foreigner from Montreal, an idiot drunk stoner, and their “Queen” to follow their King Obamaumao the First (and Last, btw). We have no King or Queen— and never have who wasn’t created by political Animali like these. Thanks!!

Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Reading the Federalist Papers, James Madison’s notes to the Constitutional Convention, and Leonard W. Levy’s Origins of the Bill of Rights

The very things gov't schools removed so generations would grow up not understanding the meaning and value of their God-given freedoms, and the Constitution that secures those God-given, not man-given, rights and freedoms.

America, her heritage, and Law of the Constitution is anti-big gov't which is why the big-gov't Left hates America and her heritage.

God, give us the grace, wisdom, and courage to restore our Free Constitutional Republic. Amen.

Thanks for reminding—Leonard Levy’s work and Madison’s notes to the Constitutional Convention. That and a re-read of “Founding Brothers”. Thanks for the retention, Mike!

The Roman Senate frequently appointed dictators for short terms, ...

The 17th Amendment enabled a similar thing to happen in the USA. Senators elected by popular vote from each state, rather than by state representatives, easily controlled by powerful Democrat leaders in the Senate. They no longer represented state interests, but the interests of power-hungry Senate leaders who elevated their choices of dictators like Obama and Biden.

Repeal the 17th Amendment. Empower State Legislatures to bring our federal government closer to the States and their citizens. Did FR lose Repeal 17th Freeper?

Here is the Act as proposed in FReeper post from Mamie2010

First, in 1913 the Federal Income tax was passed by Congress granting Congress the power to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states based on population.

Just after this came 17th Amendment “ratified” in 1913, the same year the creation and chartering of the Federal Reserve (private) Bank created by J.P. Morgan and Sen. Aldrich (rockefeller’s main Senator)—12 Branches. The Fed chairmen through the years photos are on the site— they are to say the least a furtive looking bunch of Dickensian characters. The building HQ in DC is named after Eccles, a Mormon who ran the Bank through WWII to 1948. Chartered in 1913 (followed immediately by the National Income Tax, again by Aldrich)by Congress with their machinations— to run the currency of the United States. The “Bank” which Andrew Jackson had heretofore removed decades earlier, restored.

And right after comes Panics, WWI and the Great Depression— to WWII and Roosevelt. Immensely profitable to the new Statist Fedgov.

A summary: “The Seventeenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1913, established the direct election of U.S. senators by the people, replacing the previous system where state legislatures appointed them. This change aimed to reduce corruption and increase public control over the Senate.” It of course did None of these things— and centralized control of the Fedgov and yes, the “selection” of a President (obamaumao comes to mind— out of no-where- and No public service whatsoever, and 200 days in Congress. Hmmm.

“From the people who pushed their candidate without a single primary vote”

and not one of them were on the street protesting at the time.

All fifty state chairman unanimously appointed their Queen.

Leftists have no introspection.

Yup—it looked like the assisted living facilities had dumped their residents on the curb for the afternoon.

Of course I could have gotten it wrong—some may have escaped from the dementia wing!

Starting an article with an aside, in this case an aside from 2,500 years ago, is an annoyance to me. The asides are often provided as an analogy. Analogies are often distracting and not analogous.

That said, Sic Semper Tyrannus! is my tagline.

I didn’t voting for COVID lockdowns - but bureaucrats enforced it anyway (for us peons, of course, not for themselves, btw)

And the finagling done re: mail-in ballots and the like? Didn’t vote for that, either.

The list goes on.
