Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff apologized on Friday for making comments in support of President Donald Trump potentially sending federal troops to San Francisco, where his company is based.
“Having listened closely to my fellow San Franciscans and our local officials, and after the largest and safest Dreamforce in our history, I do not believe the National Guard is needed to address safety in San Francisco,” Benioff wrote in a post on X.
The Trump administration recently deployed the National Guard to Portland, Oregon and Chicago, sparking protests and lawsuits and resulting in citizens and immigrants being detained without legal representation.
In a story published late last week in The New York Times, Benioff indicated that he would welcome troops to San Francisco. The company’s annual Dreamforce conference was held in downtown San Francisco from Tuesday through Thursday of this week.
“We don’t have enough cops, so if they can be cops, I’m all for it,” Benioff told the Times.
Benioff faced blowback for his comments from local politicians and other leaders. California Governor Gavin Newsom and San Francisco politicians on Wednesday issued statements and held press conferences to deliver the message that federal troops are not welcome in the city, and that crime is coming down.
Prominent startup investor Ron Conway, who backed companies including Google, Airbnb and Stripe, resigned from the board of the Salesforce Foundation on Thursday. According to the New York Times, Conway told Benioff in an email that their “values were no longer aligned.”
Conway is a longtime Democratic donor who was a member of VCs for Kamala, and donated around $500,000 to at least two funds tied to Kamala Harris’ unsuccessful 2024 election campaign.

Pussy.
The CEO listened to Captain Obvious - then he listened to the most demonstrably stupid collection of do nothings in the multiverse - DemocRATZ. Sad.
I would fire him for apologizing, if I could.
Salesforce has always been a fellow traveler of the leftist tech industry. They’ve been anti-gun for years.

Being a billionaire, he’s not in need of help from the NG. The common person in SF would welcome any effort to make the city safer. Somehow, this billionaire no longer believes that.
On the question of National Guard, I have come to believe that in the cities of Portland and perhaps even Chicago, the National Guard may not actually be required.
The protests are in fact already contained
Especially in Portland, the chaotic “protests” in Portland take place around an Ice Federal Building. Mostly the protests are contained to only one block and sometimes extending outward to two or three. This is very well reported and documented by tons of videos taken over the previous four months.
Meanwhile elsewhere in Portland, ICE goes about it’s business capturing and deporting illegals.
The same is true in Chicago except ICE operations are followed and a few protesters show up at the scene of the arrests. Some have actually been violent but the offenders were arrested. Most of the protesters just take “I was there videos”
At the federal building in Chicago, a fence and a gate were erected that blocked the road preventing protester access to the limited access immediately in front of the building. A law suit followed and a judge ruled it must be removed. Simultaneously, Illinois state troopers and concrete barriers appeared. The barriers restrict the protests from spilling to the street. The protesters who cross the barriers are violently arrested. All can see the protester being taken down on the concrete and then cuffed and literally hauled off.
The Troopers with sticks have prevailed. The street remains clear.
As an observation of the videos in both Portland and Chicago, it seems that for at least half and perhaps more, protesting consists of arriving on the scene suitably garbed and taking pictures while screaming the chant de jour.

Frightened into submission.
If you own or run a business, it’s a bad idea to anger half of your potential customers. This guy stepped in it. Backing away from his comment, now he has people on either side angry at him
1. They're not "protests". They have assaulted agents and have stopped traffic. They launch fireworks, bottles of urine, and similar items at employees.
2. When the local police do not protect Federal employees, it's time to send in those who will.
Boycott Salesforce for the apology.
So would I.
Too bad he had to speak the truth.
Sounds like the far left NO KINGS Luigis have gotten to him. An apology sure beats a couple bullets in the back from a DemonRAT paid assassin.
If stating facts angers your customers, you need to find a gig where it’s okay to lie to them.
Oakland makes much more sense.
Get back in line comrade
I understand your reasoning, but if you watch carefully over time, the existing federal agents in Portland and the federal agents and Illinois State trooper forces in Chicago have the relatively limited situation under total control.
The protests continue but have no real effect on the ICE operational mission
