Feminism, the Nose-Ring Theory, and Our Potential Extinction
The American Spectator ^ | October 16, 2025, 10:19 PM | Scott McKay

What the indoctrination of third-wave feminism has wrought — loneliness.

I have an acquaintance. She’s a lot younger than me. I like her, but she’s one of those people who thinks she’s a rebel by doing things which are annoyingly conventional for women her age.

I try not to hold that against her, because it’s quite clear she’s been propagandized and indoctrinated into a worldview she will hopefully discard. I think she’s smart enough to do that.

Eventually.

And because I like to keep politics and even social commentary confined to my professional life and out of my day-to-day life as much as I can, and because she certainly doesn’t share my beliefs (at least not at this point in her life), when I see her, I try to steer clear of the heavy stuff. Who wants an argument when it’s not necessary?

But the other day, I couldn’t avoid it. Because the other day, when I saw her, she whined to me that a male acquaintance of hers had told her that her nose ring (she actually has two, including the dreaded ring through her septum) was “repellent.”

“That’s so obnoxious!” she protested. “How can he tell me that?”

[S]he’s been taken in by a raft of propaganda that makes her believe that she’s somehow empowered by presenting herself in a way that makes her less attractive than God made her.

I said nothing. I just gave her a look as though to say, Please leave me out of this.

That wasn’t good enough for Ashley (which isn’t her name; I’m trying to protect the innocent/guilty here), so she demanded that I defend her choice of facial metallurgy.

Which I was absolutely not going to do, as Ashley’s tormentor was clearly in the right — no matter how indelicate he may have been.

“What do you care what this...”

Freaks. Not only the septum ring that makes them look like cattle but the spikes through the eyebrows and lips. Who decided that was attractive?

I hate the unnatural hair colors. Pink? Green? Blue? Whatever happened to Blondes, Brunettes, and Redheads?

He should have said:
I don’t understand the boyfriend’s objection. It’s a convenient way to attach your leash.

Search Assist

A cow with a nose ring is typically used for control and management purposes, as the ring can help prevent suckling in calves or assist handlers in managing potentially aggressive animals. Nose rings are inserted into the nasal septum and can be a permanent or temporary tool for animal handling.

Another reason why I watch classic TV and movies. The people looked normal.

Many years ago, maybe 35, my wife and I were eating dinner at a restaurant. At the table next to us a college girl was with her parents discussing something important. She had a nose ring. I kept thinking how could her parents take anything she said seriously when she looked like that?

Tattoos are one thing. But hardware revolts me.

I’m not talking about those paper-fine nostril rings that are on one side and you often barely see them.

I am thinking of the posts and other hardware that protrudes from each nostril. I cannot see that without being utterly revolted. I have a relative who has them, and at get-togethers, I am always careful to try not to sit across from that person.

I expect to see drips of snot, or worse on them. Of all things, those I despise the most. When I see them, I envision a pair of needle nose pliers at hand to rid myself of having to view those nasal apparitions. Those I hate the worst.

Probably followed by those ridiculous ear things the size of a silver dollar.

Reminds one of a line from Robert Earl Keen:

“I am guilty of a dreadful selfish crime; I have robbed myself of all my precious time”

Considering the ample ‘tonnage’ lot of these nose ringers are carrying around, they’re not being prevented from ‘rooting’. /s

It looks particularly pathetic when you see it on an adult woman. As the age of the woman increases, the ridiculousness factor increases exponentially.

Especially the rainbow look with multiple hues of green, pink, blue, red, whatever.

"Then there’s the psychological concerns. Women with inordinate body modifications including ample piercings and tattoos are seen by men as self obsessed, impulsive or mentally incapable of settling for normality. Nihilism is common, not to mention depression, manic unpredictability and lack of emotional intelligence (reason). In other words, they might be unhinged."

Bingo. Whenever I see a pretty girl with a nose ring or tattoos, I think, "Why would anyone want to alter God's beautiful creation with such ugliness. What a waste.'

the unnatural colors are awful I will agree. I do not understand why so many women over 50 have that mermaid hair.
