Government announce digital ID cards for armed forces veterans - and admit it is a dry run for Keir Starmer's full digital ID card scheme

Veterans are to be offered new digital cards in the first scheme of its kind which could serve as a 'case study' ahead of a proposed government role out of mandatory online IDs for every UK citizen.

Those who have served in the armed forces are able to download a digital version of their HM Armed Forces Veteran Card through a government app from today.

The new digital format is designed to give ex-military members fast and secure proof of service to help them access specialist support when registering with a GP, applying for housing support, or to prove service for veteran discounts and concessions.

It is optional for all veterans and is being rolled out alongside the pre-existing physical card, which was first launched in 2018.

Some 1.8 million people in the UK are eligible for the scheme, with personnel only having to have served for one day in the forces to apply. Around 300,000 veterans currently have a HM Armed Forces card.

Ian Murray, minister for digital government, said that the rollout of digital cards for veterans could demonstrate to the public how the credentials work and put to bed some of their fears over security.

The Labour MP for Edinburgh South said: '(It's) probably a demonstration to the public by default, in that sense, on the basis that this is the first use case for having a digital credential on your smartphone, and that digital credential is the first sort of verifiable one that government have now launched.

'So using a closed group like the 300,000 veterans [who already have a veterans card] is a really good case study to show that it does work.

Say goodbye to FR if that happens here. Digital id will be linked to all social accounts as well and easy way to monitor and document a social score. This will be used like the chicoms do; banning access, travel and transactions. Death blow to our freedom and forums like FR.

Starmer is in cahoots with the CCP along with the UK Labor party.
Reminds me of US Democrats.

“ In a letter to the British embassy, Republicans asked whether any sensitive information shared with MPs had been passed to the Chinese Communist Party.
The congressmen warned that Britain set a “dangerous precedent” when charges were dropped against two alleged spies. They accuse Sir Keir Starmer’s Government of allowing Chinese aggression to “go unchecked”.

Say goodbye to everything. China has always been the experimental nation on setting up a surveillance nation to control the people.

Too bad the Brit people are too pussified to act. This justifies open rebellion.

Why make it so hard? Just make the card for the member and mark the items pertinent to the status. I’m retired. Mine says indefinite and clears me to all functions. Unless the card stock or the program changes, I keep it for the rest of my life. My spouse has to get a new one every four years.

Active military are not denied anything anyway so what’s the big deal?

Hmm... Call me suspicious... But exactly why would you want to know where all the people who are actually trained to fight are at any given time???

So much easier to round them up... I suppose?

Obviously veterans are a threat. They might oppose a new Britain that has very little to do with the traditional world the veterans had fought for.

At a certain age, IIRC 70, your wife will be issued a permanent ID card. Mine has one.

Trust this government with digital ID...

Council elections may be delayed for a second year over devolution plans More than five million voters could be affected amid fears of Reform blocking bigger authorities with directly elected mayors

Last time around nine councils "postponed" elections.

Don't wanna vote for them? You don’t get to vote.

Still wanna trust them with digital ID, Dug?

Mine is the same. However I believe they are talking about the VA Id card for those services. You can get one online. I declined. Don't need it to be under the VA Healthcare system.
