Polk County sheriff, deputies face lawsuit over their handling of child rape victim's case

A childhood rape victim charged with filing a false report by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office when she was 12 has sued Sheriff Grady Judd and multiple employees.

It was only after Taylor Cadle secretly took photos and videos of Henry Cadle, her great uncle and adoptive father, during a subsequent rape that the Sheriff’s Office arrested him. He is now serving a 17-year prison sentence.

At 12, the girl reported her uncle for rape. No DNA evidence because he wore a condom. The female deputy concluded she was lying. The Sheriff’s department charged her with filing a false report. She was forced to apologize to the department and the rapist.

A year later the girl got photo evidence, the rapist was convicted. Brave, resourceful, undaunted girl.

The sheriff's office is indulging in shameless and fallacious ass-covering. A spokesman says "We look forward to vigorously defending against these baseless and fabricated allegations in court. The child rapist Henry Cadle was arrested by our agency in 2017 for custodial sexual battery of a minor and he was convicted and sentenced to 17 years in Florida State Prison.” Uh-huh. No thanks to them.

The investigators still work for the department accruing pensions. A letter of re-training in the personnel file, tsk tsk.

Always liked Judd, but this a CF.

He needs to fix this or resign.

That was the plot of a Netflix series that was based on a true story.

In that case the cops missed a chance to stop a serial rapist as he was getting started.

Don’t be a foster kid or live in a group home and be raped.

People are in love with DNA.

People understand that a lack of fingerprints does not mean that you were not someplace but they think that a lack of DNA means that you weren't there.

That is not the way it works.

TV has a lot to answer for.

TV has a lot to answer for.

People playing victim have a lot to answer for also, crying wolf about sexual assault so many times, accusers are no longer believed without significant evidence. Even America's Greatest President of All Time has a $5 million judgement for sexual assault from a crazy cat lady he never met, and an additional $83.3 million for pointing out she is, in fact, batshit crazy.

ID need more evidence than a 12 y.o.s word. There’s have been a good alibi, or the girl herself was hard to believe.

And Kavanaugh went through similar accusations, without the corrupt court and jury.

Forced to apologize...yes,that's bad. But cops make mistakes...and that includes female cops. If I was a juror in this case I'd probably award the girl $1...giving her a symbolic victory. But a Powerball type award? Very probably not.

If that juror had been the victim of years of sexual abuse, they would probably award millions to the rape victim in addition to sentencing the rapist to death.

Without the evidence that the girl eventually had what are the chances of the guy having been convicted? The female cop...and.presumably,the DA...clearly thought that they were a lot less than 100%. Perhaps even closer to 0%.

Just sayin'...

You’re absolutely correct.

Does the girl have a history of lying about other stuff? The article didn’t say.

Had she made any outlandish accusations about others? The article didn’t say.

Did the uncle have an alibi? No idea.

He said/she said is almost impossible to prove or disprove.

As a Scout leader years ago, I had a boy who was a very accomplished bully. He was amazingly good at getting a punch in the moment the adult’s eyes were turned.

We all knew what he was doing but could never prove it. I even had lunch with his dad and tried to get him to understand. “not my son.” was the response.

There was no way that we could prove anything. I presume this case is the same and the family is using it to try to cash in.

Polk County seems to have a reputation as a highly professional agency.

Oh,and BTW...regarding death for the guy. While death for those who sexually violate young kids might be a very pleasing option there’s one (and only one) strong argument against it: if you can be executed for child rape that gives you a very strong incentive to kill the kid.

It's always someone else's fault isn't it.

Never that the police did not do their job.

“The female deputy concluded she was lying.”

And her training and expertise in this subject matter are what?

Because if they are just relying on her gender as a qualification to know when another female is lying, well they are going to lose and lose hard.

Morons, always send the kid to a specialist of some kind. Not because they’ll be better at discerning the truth, but because it demonstrates due diligence to uncover the truth.

It’s okay to make mistakes and be wrong. It’s not okay to look like you didn’t really try.

A physical exam would have shown that the girl had been sexually assaulted.

It would not have proved who did it but it would have proved that someone had sex with her.

There are certain signs that will even point to if it was consensual or not.

But in this case, 12. So rape.

They well and truly messed this one up. Hopefully people were fired.
