House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said Tuesday that he is on board with a proposal to have a conversation with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on C-Span. .
“I look forward to that,” Jeffries told reporters in Washington.
“We’re going to try to get it scheduled, absolutely,” he promised, referencing a possible joint appearance on C-Span’s new program Ceasefire.
The development could set the two party leaders in the House up for a rousing debate over the government shutdown, which entered its 15th day on Wednesday.
Johnson has declared he has no intention of accepting Jeffries’s offer to do a public debate about the shutdown on the House floor.
“We debated all of this on the House floor, as you know, before we passed our bill,” a continuing resolution to keep the government open, the speaker said Monday. “He spoke for seven or eight minutes, he had all of his colleagues lined up, they gave it their best shot, and they argued, and they stomped their feet and screamed at us and all that.”

Great idea. Dumbass. Will he provide a person to ‘splain wut hock-keem sayin’?
We'll stall until the reopening
Debating Majority Speaker Johnson does not seem like much of a heavy lift for any elected official with a fair amount of public speaking and debate skills. I’m certain Hakeem is being told this will be a Slam Dunk event. A virtual Cake Walk. Even former Speaker Kevin McCarthy could mop the floor against Johnson most the time.
Hakeem most likely is being trained to give Speaker Johnson the
“Rude-Grandpa Treatment”, similar to what Joe Biden did to Paul Ryan back in 2012. No guardrails, no diplomacy, no being called out by The Host, whichever Lib they chose for that role.
Nothing is going to change before the “No Kings” riots on the 18th.
And what sense does it make for those two to debate at all? That’s silly. As Johnson said, the formal and organized debates are on the House floor.
Be prepared, Mike. HHaaakeem will pull the race card every time. Also, the moderator will be a flaming demoncRAT so you’ll be treated like a disease. Don’t debate him, Mike. He’s not worth the trouble. If you do, you’fe asking for trouble.
Hakeem thinks he’s Muhammad Ali but the rope-a-dope will be on him.
dims are big on sign language interpreters
No sir!
The moderator must be neutral, objective, and trustworthy. Get someone from Turning Point USA.
Don’t elevate the stooge to anything more than a ghetto Sombrero Wearer.
As a former NYC school teacher, and DEI hire, he is as dim as they come.
Hakeemo esta un Retardo.
Don’t do it Mike. No upside. Do not debate a lying moron, ever.
Will he get to wear his fake mustache and sombrero?
The "moderator" kept shorting Winsom-Sears during her debate with the Dem.
What is there for them to discuss? The House has already passed the funding bill. The hold up is the democrats in the Senate. Have them explain why they are refusing to fund the government.
I also find that using the term ‘healthcare’ deceptive language. Healthcare is what I receive from. doctors, nurses, etc. Not the government. It’s not healthcare their arguing about, but who should pay for it.
“...debate over the government shutdown...”
With Jeffries nothing is ever a debate, conversation, discussion, or meeting of the minds. His way of doing these is by yelling over his opponent. He is a historical no talent when it comes to discussion and points. To prove that they are doing it at CNN using CNN people and not FOX. If he intended to make the discussion fair he wouldn’t need CNN to cover his arse. It should be an off network source that has no affiliation with liberal of conservative sources lioke streaming.

True.
I’d rather see Cruz debate in the Senate. Any Dem will do.
I don’t like the idea. Jeffries is passionate and loud about his views. Johnson seems a bit too mild-mannered to go up against him — even though he is in the right.
C-Span
That ought to be rich. 😉

He’s all them and no brains it’s why he’s a democrat.
