Several airports in blue cities and states are refusing to broadcast a new video of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem blasting Democrats for causing air travel delays by perpetuating the government shutdown.
Noem, who oversees TSA, says in the video that it is the agency’s “top priority to make sure you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience as possible while we keep you safe” before she went on to blame Democrats.
“However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government and because of this many of our operations are impacted and most of our TSA employees are working without pay,” Noem said.
“We will continue to do all that we can to avoid delays that will impact your travel. And our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government,” she added.
Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport, Oregon’s Portland International Airport, Washington’s Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and three airports in New York — Niagara Falls International Airport, Buffalo Niagara International Airport, and Westchester County Airport — have all dug in their heels and declined to air the advertisement, according to multiple reports.
While TSA agents are working during the shutdown, they are doing so unpaid.
Meanwhile, some air travelers have experienced flight delays and cancellations during the shutdown due to airport staffing shortages.
The Senate is set to meet at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday evening before holding a vote at 5:30 p.m. on the House-passed continuing resolution, which would fund the government and end the shutdown.
As of Tuesday, the shutdown has lasted 14 days.

What’s stopping TSA from setting up large monitors at their checkpoints and playing that video on repeat?
I hate to have to say it, but the airports are correct here. Explain the delays. But keep political messages (even if true) out of it. After all, what R’s are allowed do the D’s will later be able do as well.
And yeah, I know many airports run political channels like CNN on their TV monitors.

Expecting dems to restrain themselves because we did is folly. In any given situation the rats will do what they have the power to do and no less.
It would be interesting to know if Biden and company played similar political messages at airports when they were in power.
Either way, it’s not good practice.
I don’t think this kind of shenanigans moves the needle one way or another.
Even if her message was being carried at these airports, the brainwashed Democrats would tune it out or react with anger. As for the rest of us, we don’t need to hear that message at airports - we already know the Democrats are to blame for the shutdown.
It’s hard to imagine any Democrat travelers being persuaded by Kristi Noem that Democrats are to blame for the shutdown - or any Republicans for that matter who are not already persuaded.
Given the fact that airports are effectively nationalized agents of the federal government here in the U.S., whatever government propaganda that the government wants shown is generally what would or should win the day. It’s a little surprising to see some resistance TBH.
I didn’t say I like it. In fact, I hate it. The FCC should be abolished and airports should be fully private.
But it is the system we have. Airports are agents of government. Pretty much all government airports that you go into have their TVs tuned to CNN that I see, which again lines up. Pro-government CNN in the government airports. It matches up.

I would be interested in knowing if DHS messages are SUPPOSED to be aired by the airports, by whatever contractual means. If not - the airports are in the clear because an uncontracted request is not binding. If they are contracted - perhaps the airports need shut doen because of their failure to fulfill contractual requirements.
