WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected conservative conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' last-ditch attempt to block an almost $1.5 billion defamation judgment he faces over false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.
The court without comment turned away Jones' appeal of a state court ruling.
Last week he urged the court to urgently intervene, saying that if the court did not take action, his website, Infowars, was at risk of being turned over to the satirical news site The Onion.
The proposed acquisition would be used to help fund payments to family members of the Sandy Hook victims.
Jones' lawyers had warned in the filing last week that if the case was not put on hold, “InfoWars will have been acquired by its ideological nemesis and destroyed."
In December 2012, a gunman killed 20 first-grade children and six adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
After the shooting, Jones on more than one occasion suggested during his online shows that it was a "staged event," according to court papers.
Families of the victims then sued in Connecticut state court, claiming defamation as well as other state law violations.
Jones, who owns InfoWars through his company Free Speech Systems, subsequently lost attempts in state court to appeal the judgment. He is also seeking bankruptcy protections.
The Onion failed in an earlier attempt to acquire InfoWars through a bankruptcy auction, but Jones’ lawyer said a new attempt is underway in Texas state court.

Cruel and unreasonable
I won’t reveal my thoughts regarding the Sandy Hook parents so that I can avoid lifetime banning.
I don’t know exactly what Alex Jones said. But Michael Savage does it right. Before saying anything controversial he prefaces it with something like, “In my opinion...”
Perhaps omitting that is where Jones went wrong.
WarInfo (TM) is proud to present Billion Dollar Al.
When Al is not at our studio, he is normally hard at work safeguarding a $5 million house.
Disgusting. Alex jones may have defamed those people (I don’t know the intricacies of the law) but there is no way he did 1.5 billion dollars of damage and it should be the perfect opportunity to reign in absurd civil judgements under the 8th amendment.
1.5 billion for spending 20 minutes of his show on it and the sacred “Sandy Hook families” didn’t even know about it until five years later when the ambulance chasers recruited them.
There never was an auction as bankruptcy proceedings require, just a fake one the judge threw out the trustee over.
The good news is they got sloppy because it was just Alex Jones and the Justice department is headed their way. What they did tolo trump is hard to litigate but what they did to Jones was cut and dry illegal.
This shows one must be careful what one says about others on a public forum.
Federal law should not be used in violation of Amendment I to secure action in a Texas court on the basis of an out-of-state judgement.
And if I recall correctly, it’s a default judgement, so it was never tried on the merits.
The families and their attorneys are evil.
Huge win for the lawyers of the families of Sandy Hook.
How much will they eventually get? As opposed to what the lawyers will scrape off - and donate to the Democrat party.
This is why we know Roberts is part of the cabal that gave us Jan 6th, the 2020 election and many other atrocities. Roberts has denied actual law to anyone the swamp wants to harm. I am not sure if Roberts got special Epstein treatment or if another group is blackmailing him. But he is clearly working on behalf of someone other than the American people and our constitution. Roberts is the reason we need a 6-3 majority to get good rulings in the Supreme Court when 5-4 should be enough. Roberts’ rulings make use of mental and logical gymnastics which never make sense. They cause every intelligent American to lose their respect for the court system and rule of law in America. Remember Roberts is the one who personally oversees the FISA courts which always let the FBI and DOJ spy on the American public for any reason or no reason at all.
I would go scorched earth and destroy everything and go live in a tent.
Does this mean that Trump can now sue anyone who calls him Hitler?
Conservative? No, MSM, he’s a tinfoil hat wearing loony.
Filthy corruption. He never got a trial. Judge demanded to know how much money was made from the sandy hook topic. No such accounting existed. It’s looks along Fox exactly how much revenue was earned from talking about Greta Thunberg. There is no method for that on a news program. He turned over 100% of their financial and business records. The democrat female judge deemed him in default of discovery and issued a summary judgement of guilt. The jury was only allowed to decide how big of an award.
Total corruption. People who like this verdict should think about what happens here and elsewhere when somebody questions the official narrative.
By the way, he never said it didn’t happen. He had in a guest who thought there was some hinky things and diverting was fake about it. A lot of that came from the laughing dad at the press conference. But bottom line, if he said it there would be playing that video wall to wall. It doesn’t exist. Hell they even offer an FBI agent get tens of millions in damages. He was never even mentioned but worked on the case and thought anyone suggesting chicanery was slandering him.
This is censorship corruption and the supremes rubber stamped it.
Your need to educate yourself on this case. He never once declared it to be a fake story. He interviewed and questioned a guest who did. And he pointed out some anomalies in the video such as the dad laughing that same day as he stepped to the microphone at a press conference.
