MK Amit Halevi (Likud) issued sharp criticism Sunday evening of the agreement reached to end the war in Gaza, calling it “the opposite of a victory.”
He also announced that he will not attend US President Donald Trump’s planned address to the Knesset on Monday. “Even those who believe we were forced to sign this agreement should not celebrate it,” he said.
“After the most brutal massacre in our country’s history, after more than a thousand soldiers killed and thousands wounded, Israel is now agreeing to the establishment of a Palestinian state on homeland territories in Gaza, to the internationalization of the conflict, and to giving our antisemitic adversaries - Turkey and Qatar - a foothold here,” Halevi warned.
“We are leaving Hamas and its neo-Nazi infrastructure intact, at the height of its power, while releasing thousands of arch-murderers who will rejoin its ranks and continue their plan to destroy Israel,” he continued.
“I am deeply moved by every hostage who returns to their family. My heart is with the soldiers and civilians who long to return to normal life. We can certainly speak of the immense domestic and international pressures that led us here, but we must not celebrate this outcome,” Halevi emphasized.

Can’t blame him. Would you trust Hamas or any muslim?
Disrespectful
I am hoping this is just a ploy to get the hostages home (which I doubt Hamas will fully fulfil) but then, when Hamas has not complied, Israel can resume to wipe them out.
Screw a 2-state solution. They are not worthy.
He’s not wrong - right now. Let’s wait a few weeks for Hamas to not return all of the dead hostages, not disarm and not leave power. Oh, and possibly resume attacks on Israel. Then Israel goes back in, with no one who matters having any sympathy for the jihadist murderers.
1. Hostages released.
2. Fully withdraw the IDF
3. Hamas immediately violates peace agreement.(They already are)
4. Israel, US, UE whine on media for weeks.
5. IDF flattens Gaza, leaving not a bug alive.
6. Problem solved, leftist whine on media for weeks.
With the hostages back, Hamas is left with absolutely 0 leverage. They F up and they will be obliterated with prejudice with but a fraction of their previous allied support.
MK Avi Maoz (Regious Zionism) also skipping Trump address to Knesset.
“One would have to be completely blind to believe that anything good will come out of Trump’s initiative,” said Maoz.
Then complain about Netenyahu. President Trump is doing what PM Netenyahu could not. This kenesset member is showing disrespect to the USA. Unexceptable.
Yeah he raises some valid points but they have had 2 years to get it done and have not done so fully. So what does this guy suggest?
Heck. The war’s over — at least for the time being. The hostages are coming back. That’s good enough.
So his thinking is that after a 2 year war Hamas was at the height of its power? His suggestion, I assume, was to continue fighting until Hamas was destroyed but by his assessment one might conclude that after another two years of fighting Hamas would reach new heights.
Partly, I believe the “celebration” is part of the pressure Trump is putting on Hamas to release the hostages. Trump is making it seem like a foregone conclusion which is helping to make it more likely to happen. The celebration is a deadline by another name.
I kinda agree with this guy. Israel got the short, smelly end of the stick on this one, and anybody with two brain cells to rub together (and can read history) knows they’ll be right back at it soon enough.
You understand Trump’s Sun Tzu strategy: dictate the enemies path to pave your own to victory.
I only hope the terrorist bastards don’t play cute and say “Peace? We heard ‘piece’” before they dump loads of hostage body parts.
“Can’t blame him. Would you trust Hamas or any muslim?”
Still a problem - is he Israel’s John Bolton?
He may be proven right.
How long do you think this “peace” will last?
Halevi is of course wrong. His totally misguided comments deny the reality of what is happening.
There will not be a Palestenian State nurtured by Qatar and Turkey. There will be at first a protectorate nurtured by Israel. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain.
They are going to create what can be a prosperous new country that is in effect a business, industrial, and tourism development. It will be kept free from the Iranian plague and radical Islam. The President outlined what is detailed in the Abraham Accords and left over from his previous administration. What is to come is already created in detail and is so to speak already in the bag, the files, ready for implementation.
Iran could not let that happen and had Hamas assault Israel, kill people and take hostages.
Iran is no more. Hamas is so dead it can no longer actually function.
When they break it, the IDF will be waiting for them, and know exactly what they plan, thanks to satellite surveilance, Shabak and Mossad.
