Summary
"The war is over," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he began his flight from Washington to Israel. Asked about prospects for the region, he said: "I think it's going to normalize."
The U.N. said humanitarian aid was ramping up, with cooking gas entering for the first time since March and expanded food and medical deliveries.
A LASTING PEACE SEEMS DISTANT
The truce and the exchange of both hostages and prisoners offered a glimmer of hope, but despite Trump's optimism, the loss of life, devastation and trauma underscored how distant a lasting peace remains. Progress now hinges on global commitments that could be taken up by a summit later on Monday of more than 20 world leaders led by Trump in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh resort.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will attend the summit in Egypt, an Axios reporter said on Sunday, citing a senior Palestinian official. No Israeli officials will attend, Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian said.
Bedrosian said Israel expected the remaining hostages to begin returning early on Monday with the 20 living hostages to be released together, followed by the handover of bodies of the remaining 28 dead hostages.
She said 1,700 Palestinians detained since October 7, 2023, along with 22 minors and the bodies of 360 militants, would be released only after Israeli hostages were safely returned.
On the ground, Palestinians returning to northern Gaza described scenes of staggering destruction.
"We couldn't believe the devastation," said Rami Mohammad-Ali, 37, who walked 15 kilometers (9 miles) with his son from Deir Al Balah to Gaza City. "We are joyful to return, but bitter about the destruction," he added, recounting the sight of human remains scattered along...

ISRAELIS BOO NETANYAHU, CHEER TRUMP
Multitudes who gathered late on Saturday at Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square cheered and waved placards in praise of Trump during a speech by his special envoy Steve Witkoff but booed loudly when Witkoff sought to thank Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his role in the ceasefire effort.
Some Federal judge will order the returned hostages back to their captors.
Have any of the hostages actually been released?
If not, why should we assume that Hamas, having lied so freely so many times before, will follow through this time?
They are either stupid or obtuse... Benjamin Netanyahu saved Israel on more than one occasion. His resolve to eliminate HAMAS has been successful and while there will always be hatred for Israel by anti-Semites... As long as there are people like Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel will survive. Iran’s nuclear program has been eliminated... HAMAS has been eliminated... And Israel has been saved once again, by the grace of God.
In the US a lot of places would have boos for our President.
“A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house”
The Bible, Mark 6:4.
They have political idiots just like we do. Have an election there today, and Netanyahu wins easily.
Exactly. Once all of the hostages are safely in Israeli hands, I’ll believe it. Until then, it’s just a Hamas promise.
Yeah, but look how the British thanked Churchill at the end of WWII by throwing him out of office
Um, are the hostages actually physically released back into Israel now?
Or is this jumping the gun a little bit?
And we all know what THAT'S worth.
FWIW, hamas is now going around in Gaza executing Gazan citizens in cold blood.
I would be astonished if any of the hostages are still alive.
Bump.
HAMAS HAS BEEN DAMAGED-—NOT ELIMINATED, IMO
“Some Federal judge will order the returned hostages back to their captors.“
Actually shocked they haven’t tried…..yet.
Yeah, the parts of the plan that call for the the disarmament of Hamas and demilitarization of Gaza is going to go down hard, if at all
I’m hoping but not at all confident.
AFAIK it hasn’t happened yet. I hope it goes well, but I have a bad feeling about this for a couple of reasons. How many will be alive? I dread the answer.
There are also reports that Hamas is trying to rebrand itself and melt into the populace as generic “security forces”. I don’t think they intend to keep their part of the bargain.
As for the present, widespread reports are that a lot of Gazans, Hamas included, are settling scores and taking scalps, much as what happened in the immediate weeks after the end of WWII.
Not yet.
If not, why should we assume that Hamas, having lied so freely so many times before, will follow through this time?
Because we put pressure on their money guys and their money guys are putting pressure on them.
I would say there is about a 30% chance of all the hostages coming home but I am in a optimistic mood today.
Israeli croweds *booed* Netanyahu, but cheered trump in Hostages Square last night. Everyone here keeps mentioning hostages yet barely register the massive loss of Israeli life on the front lines.
* 1,150 plus IDF troops are now DEAD since the war started.
* 40% of them were under the age of 21.
* In proportion to Israel’s population, that’s substantial number.
A chunk of Israelis not only blame Netanyahu for leaving them vulnerable to October 7th, but also for prolonging the war, and sabotaging hostage negotiations for his own political survival.
Steve Witkoff is the one talking and once he says Netanyahu, he can’t even finish what he’s going to say because of the booing.
