ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In a stunning and unprecedented public rebuke that signals a deep and potentially significant crack in the facade of the "Axis of Resistance," a prominent and historically influential Iranian newspaper has declared that the Hamas-led "Al-Aqsa Storm" operation of October 7, 2023, was a "costly mistake" and a "definite mistake from the beginning" that has wasted decades of effort and brought nothing but devastation to the region.
The scathing assessment, published in a detailed editorial by the Jomhouri-e Eslami newspaper on Sunday, argues that the two-year war sparked by the attack has produced no winners, but has instead inflicted catastrophic losses on not only the Palestinians but also on Iran and its key allies in Lebanon and Yemen, all while failing to achieve its stated goals.
This extraordinary critique, coming from within the heart of the Iranian establishment as a fragile ceasefire takes hold in Gaza, represents a dramatic departure from the official narrative of heroic resistance and raises profound questions about the true cost of the conflict for all involved.
"The reality is that, contrary to many analyses and opinions, the Al-Aqsa Storm operation was a mistake," the editorial in Jomhouri-e Eslami began, mincing no words. "We held this belief from the very first moments of receiving the news of this operation, and now that more than two years have passed since it was carried out, we are even more steadfast in our belief."

Yes, they made a serious mistake with October 7th invasion of Israel and the butchery Hamas brought forth.
This article is more true than anything I have seen for a long time coming out of Iran. Many are surprised this is in print.
Right now, President Trump is seeing families of the hostages they released by Hamas. And speaking before the Knesset in Israel.
God Bless President Trump, God Bless Israel.
“This article is more true than anything I have seen for a long time coming out of Iran. Many are surprised this is in print.”
It’s (maybe not so) surprisingly more true than most things from the NY Slimes and the Washington Compost.
Your are spot on. Correcto.
Bombing Iran was a master stroke.
Oh for God’s sake.
REPEAT AFTER ME.
IRAN is SHIITE. Iran is SHIITE.
and now
HAMAS IS SUNNI. HAMAS IS SUNNI.
The Sunnis and Shiites have hated each other for far longer than Israel has existed.
It was premeditated mass murder. And, given what Islam is, it'll probably not be the last such "error".
Yes. But they still have the enriched Uranium.
President Trump handled this in an amazing way.
Will the peace hold? It is hard to say, I’m sure some of the Jihadi’s will try not to abide by that.
But many largely Muslim countries in the region, are sick of war too.
Turkey, Syrian Jihadi’s and Iran are the question mark.
Erdogan is up for re-election and is facing a disaster with his economy. President Trump holds the strings on that mess.
The Iranian regime is slow to get it.
It was just a ‘mistake’. A costly one, but a mistake.
warning to others, don’t make that kind of ‘mistake’ in the future.
Russia made another mistake in Feb 2023. Just another ‘costly mistake’.
Hitler also made mistakes in his life.
Were it not for so many ‘mistakes’, the world would be a wonderful place to live in.
They said mistake? They are Evil. That is a fatal mistake.
Yep
Actually that is not how it is in Iraq.
There are Sunni and Shite in regions in Iraq.
The Kurds in Iraq are largely Sunni Muslim, but in the last 10 years they have softened on which flavor they were.
Brazani and Tallibani families are the power brokers. The younger members are not same as the older ones.
great post - bump for later.
Thanks.
You said: “The Sunnis and Shiites have hated each other for far longer than Israel has existed.”
Nope.
Jerusalem existed 3500 BCE. Islam began in the 7th century.
